A FLORIDA man caught shoplifting at Walmart gave a bizarre excuse why he thought he shouldn't be arrested. Steven Francis, 51, was caught stealing more than $200 worth of clothes from the Gainesville store, off Interstate-75. He told officers that he had recently taken over Walmart after a ...hostile takeover..., according to WCJB. The bold claim did not impress police and Francis was subsequently arrested. The alleged thief is currently being held in Alachua County Jail. With heavy traffic expectations, the grocery chain is trying to reduce in-store theft by employing new devices to catch alleged thieves. Attendants at the self-checkout lines can pause the registers if they believe a patron is stealing. With the register paused, attendants can further investigate the alleged thieves.
