FOODIES around the world were left scratching their heads after a bizarre limited-time collaboration was announced.
New Oreo Sour Patch Kids cookies were made available for pre-order on Wednesday with the treat expected to hit store shelves on May 6.
"Sour. Sweet. Oreo. Embrace all three with the new Oreo South Patch Kids sandwich cookie," read the Oreo website.
The treat features cookies flavored with bits of Sour Patch Kids along with multicolored creme.
The collaboration also comes with merchandise, including shoulder bags, socks, bucket hats, and hair barrettes.
The clothes will be made available on May 2 on the Oreo website and will be offered while supplies last.
"The Oreo brand is always looking for playful ways to excite our fans," said Oreo senior associate brand manager, Caroline Suppiger, in a statement.
"What better and more unexpected way to do that than letting Sour Patch Kids playfully takeover our cookie?!"
News of the collab sparked several reactions on social media.
"I think I'm gonna be SICK," wrote one person on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"This sounds absolutely horrendous," wrote another.
A third wrote: "We do not want it."
However, there were some positive reactions as well.
"I have questions but I am also intrigued," wrote one person.
"We will be buying," wrote another.
"I want itttt like I need it now," wrote a third person.
OUT OF THIS WORLD
Earlier this year, the Oreo Space Dunk cookies were released featuring galactic "cosmic creme" with blue and pink marshmallow filling.
The cookies came with five different "galactic embossments," according to the Oreo website.
However, the page advertising the limited edition cookies has since been taken down.
Fans were also given the chance to win a six-hour trip to the edge of space as part of the Lift Off with Oreo sweepstakes.
The deadline to enter was April 5 and the trip is tentatively scheduled for 2025 but is subject to availability.
"Oreo cookies are all about transporting fans to a place full of excitement and childlike curiosity," said US Vice President for Oreos Michelle Deignan.
"We're over the moon about partnering with Space Perspective to give one lucky fan the opportunity to dunk an Oreo cookie while gliding through space. Through this campaign we hope to take playfulness to new heights, proving it is not only in all of us, but also exists in space."
