AMAZON has added another location to receive its high-speed drone delivery service option that can get packages sent in under an hour.

Customers who use Amazon Prime in the West Valley Phoenix Metro Area in Arizona can get in on the delivery perk later this year.

The drone delivery is part of Amazon Prime Air and has only been offered in College Station, Texas, and central California[/caption]

The drones will operate from Amazon's fulfillment center in Tolleson, about 12 miles west of Phoenix.

John Pombier, senior manager of community engagement with Amazon Prime Air, said the company is excited to start the new drone venture in the Phoenix area.

"It's exciting because it's the first time we're integrating drone service into our fulfillment centers, so this is an add-on," Pombier told CBS affiliate KOLD.

The drones will offer the quickest delivery the area has seen.

"We still have traditional models. You can still order two-day service with Prime but for certain types of items," Pombier continued.

"We can deliver them within an hour, so it's an added benefit for Prime members."

The only two other areas to receive Amazon's drone services are College Station, Texas, and central California since 2022.

Amazon said it is currently working with the  Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local officials in Tolleson to get the proper licensing to use their drones.

EXCITED RESIDENTS

Residents of Tolleson are excited to welcome the new technology to their city.

"I think it's great, something different," Tolleson Inituez who lives in Tolleson told KOLD.

"I think it will be a good thing for the neighborhood."

Tolleson resident Richard Silva was asked if they would be frustrated by the noise that comes with having drones flying around.

Silva said it won't bother him much as long as the drones are keeping up with their delivery time.

"Not worried at all, as long as they come on time," Silva told KOLD.

"I really have no problem at all."

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY

The mayors of Tolleson and Phoenix said in an Amazon press release they are excited to invite the drone service into their cities and the opportunities that will come with it.

"As Amazon embarks on the national expansion of its Amazon Drone Delivery Program, we're proud to have their innovative presence in our community," Juan F. Rodriguez, mayor of Tolleson said.

"By bringing this service to new communities, they're not just delivering goods; They're delivering opportunities and economic growth for all."

"Amazon's commitment to innovation exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit that drives our city forward."

Kate Gallego, mayor of Phoenix said the innovation that comes with the drone technology aligns with the city's goals to reduce pollution.

"This kind of delivery is the future, and it's exciting that it will be starting in the Phoenix Metro Area," Gallego said.

"The shift toward zero-emission package delivery will help us reduce local pollution and further cement our city as a hotbed for the innovative technology of tomorrow."
