After numerous rumors and murmurings, a sequel to the now beloved "Devil Wears Prada" has finally been confirmed, and it's safe to say fans are eager to become cogs in Miranda Priestly's magnificent wheel once again. But "The Devil Wears Prada" has arguably outlasted both, enduring as one of the sharpest comedies of the 21st century, with memorable performances from stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. In the words ofco-star Stanley Tucci, the film's longevity is down to the fact that it's "a fucking brilliant movie." So the sequel will have a lot to live up to. But at least, now that it has actually started production, news about the follow-up is no longer moving at a glacial pace. Here's what we know so far: Key cast members Meryl Streep as Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling are officially set to return for "The Devil Wears Prada 2." In addition to the original stars, Kenneth Branagh has been cast as the husband of Streep's character. However, Andy's boyfriend Nate Cooper, played by Adrian Grenier,will not be back. That makes sense, since after Nate was unsupportive of Andy's career in the original, the couple seemed to have broken up — or did they? It will hit theaters on May 1, 2026. The first week in May is typically the release date for the first big movie of summer, a four-quadrant blockbuster-hopeful involving spandex costumes and comicbook characters. But in 2026, the spandex will be found in the shapewear of fashion magazine staffers and the superhero will be none other than Meryl Streep — aka Miranda Priestly herself. The next chapter will mirror what's actually happening in publishing, as it reportedly follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. The imperious editor will face off against Blunt's character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs. Though Hathaway is returning, her character quit her job at Runway magazine at the end of the first film and went to work at a newspaper, so it's not known how she'll make her return. David Frankel, director of the original film and and Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original film, are returning for the sequel. Producer Karen Rosenfelt also returns. The 2006 original had plenty of insider fashion business references, and cameos from models including Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum and Bridget Hall added to the authenticity. Who might join the cast this time around? It's certainly possibility that the likes of Kendall Jenner or Bella Hadid might be persuaded, but this time around, notable influencers could also help update the storyline — think Aimee Song or Camila Coelho.
