"As of this morning, there is no new information to share and search crews remain in the field attempting to locate Mr. Gibbs," the spokesperson says. The park in Arizona encompasses 278 miles of the Colorado River and neighboring uplands, according to the National Park Service. "Located on the ancestral homelands of 11 present day Tribal Communities, Grand Canyon is one of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world," the park service says, "a mile deep canyon unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers visitors from both north and south rims." In 2024, there were almost five million visitors. For the rest of the year, the North Rim area is closed because of damage caused by the Dragon Bravo Wildfire, and on Thursday, July 31, the park service released an extreme heat warning.
