Warning: This article contains spoilers for part 1 ofWednesdayseason 2. After nearly three years in the shadows,Wednesdayis back with black pigtails and a withering gaze. The first four episodes of season 2 crept ontoNetflixearlier this month, throwing our favorite heartless teenager (played byJenna Ortega) headfirst into a new mystery, complete with secret experiments, ravenous zombies, and a spat of unsettling bird murders. "We didn't want to repeat ourselves, as second seasons are tricky things with a lot of shows, and we wanted to change up the mystery storytelling," co-creator Alfred Gough toldEntertainment Weeklyfor ourdigital cover story. "So the idea is that at the end of episode 4, literally all hell breaks loose. It propels you forward, but I don't think you quite know where it's going." Fellow co-creator Miles Millar didn't mince words, telling EW that viewers should be"very worried"about what's still to come. And with that haunting tease, here's everything you need to know aboutWednesdayseason 2, part 2, from an official trailer breakdown to its streaming release date. Bernard Walsh/Netflix The fourth episode ofWednesdayseason 2 marks the proper return of Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci), the season 1 baddie also known as Laurel Gates. Now imprisoned at the Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, she agrees to help Dr. Fairburn (Thandiwe Newton) control the Hyde, but only if she can see Tyler (Hunter Doohan). The meeting turns violent when Tyler transforms into his monstrous alter ego, killing her and setting his sights on Wednesday. Once he tracks Wednesday down, Tyler grabs her and throws her out a window before escaping from the hospital. She plummets to the ground below, landing hard on the cobblestone. Our heroine is left for dead as Tyler disappears into the woods. "It's the first time, at least in the season, where Wednesday truly is out of her depth," Ortega told EW of the moment Wednesday comes face-to-face with the Hyde. "They were talking about me running down the hall or me doing some sort of slide underneath [the Hyde], and I remember telling them, 'I don't think so, because this isn't an action show. And Wednesday's too smart for that. She has to understand that there's no chance. She could run, but it's a huge monster.'" Meanwhile, Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) gets himself committed to Willow Hill to uncover the truth behind "LOIS," an acronym for "Long-term Outcast Integration Study," a covert program designed to kidnap outcasts, trap them in a hidden facility beneath the hospital, and conduct experiments on them (kind of likeGen V). He and Wednesday later discover these underground cells and several imprisoned test subjects, one of whom may be connected to Tyler. The operation is run by Fairburn's assistant, Judi (Heather Matarazzo), who is continuing the twisted legacy of her father, Augustus Stonehurst, by attempting to give "normies" the supernatural powers of outcasts. Oh, and she's also revealed to be the hooded Avian controlling the crows. Yeah, there's a lot going on. Finally, we learn that Ophelia, Morticia's (Catherine Zeta-Jones) long-lost sister, was once committed to Willow Hill after a psychic breakdown not unlike the one Wednesday is currently facing. Ophelia's fate remains unknown, layering in another mystery for the second half of the season. The trailer opens with Wednesday waking up in a hospital bed, only to be greeted by Principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie) dressed as a nurse. Yes,thatPrincipal Weems. The one whodiedin the season 1 finale. If you're confused, it's okay. So is Wednesday. "Rise and shine, sleepyhead! Ready for your sponge bath?" Weems chirps. "What ring of hell is this?" Wednesday deadpans before the two are transported to a surreal dreamscape featuring a giant gorgon-head fireplace. Weems coolly explains: "This isn't hell, Miss Adams, but I understand the confusion." When Wednesday asks the question we're all thinking — "Why are you here?" — Weems responds, "Because I am your new spirit guide. Surprise!" We then cut to a brief glimpse of Tyler out in the world as Wednesday warns Enid (Emma Myers) that he "has plans to kill both of us," but that she plans to "fix" everything. "Fix it? You're the reason he escaped," Enid snaps, referring to Wednesday's role in setting Tyler free at the end of part 1. But time is running out, and Wednesday tells her parents that "a life hangs in the balance." "If you don't hurry, you'll have nothing left to save," Weems ominously adds as chaos unfolds in Jericho and Nevermore. In the trailer's final seconds, we hear what certainly sounds like the voice ofLady Gagadelivering a spine-chilling warning: "Beware. There will be a price to pay."
