SPARTANSBURG, PA ― Three girls were flown to a hospital with burns after a fire leveled an Amish schoolhouse in rural northwestern Pennsylvania on the morning of March 27, authorities said.
The girls, whose ages were not immediately known, were inside the school when the fire erupted inside the building.

The girls are believed to have filled a lantern with the wrong fuel, leading to an explosion that set off the fire, said Chris Hughes, chief of the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department. He said the three girls were flown by helicopter to a hospital in Buffalo, New York.
Pennsylvania State Police fire marshals are investigating. Several local fire companies remained on the scene into the late morning.
