You may want to pause before making that rice-based meal—there's an important new recall you need to know about.
On April 1, Lundberg Family Farms announced a voluntary recall of select bags of its jasmine white rice, which are sold at grocery stores nationwide, including Wegmans. Here's what you need to know about the recall, and what to do if you have the product in your pantry.
What, exactly, is being recalled?
According to a release by the company andWegmans, the recall is for Lundberg Family Farms Regenerative Organic Certified White Jasmine Rice in the two-pound bag. The package has the UPC 073416- 040281and the following best-by dates and lot codes printed on the label:
-
02/01/2027 (lot code: 260201)
-
02/02/2027 (lot code: 260202)
Why is this rice being recalled?
According to Wegmans, the rice is being recalled due to the "possible presence of foreign material." However, no additional details have been provided about what that material may be.
Why is this a Class II recall?
While the recall has yet to hit the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) website, multiple outlets are reporting that Lundberg classified it is aClass II recall. This designation means that exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, with a low likelihood of serious harm. This is in line with other FDA recalls whereforeign materialis involved.

A Class II recall is the second-highest ranking, with a Class I recall being the most severe. That, the FDA explains, involves a "situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."
What should I do if I have this rice in my pantry?
As is the case with all recalls involving contamination, it’s important to not consume the recalled products.
Wegmans says customers who purchased the rice at their grocery store can return it for a full refund.
Lundberg has shared with multiple outlets that it has both made the FDA aware of the recall and that it has not received any reports of injury or illness to date. (Good Housekeepinghas reached out to the company, but has not received a response by the time of publication. We will update this story with any further information we receive.)While the rice was also sold at other retailers, Wegmans noted that customers can contact its representatives directly at 1-855-934-3663 daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST with any questions.
