New owners of Muddy's Bake Shop in Memphis plan open house

Sweet news for anyone who's a real "gluten" for punishment!

USA TODAY

To celebrate the transfer of ownership of the popularMuddy’s Bake Shopon Broad, new owners Micah Dempsey and Stacy Hinkle are holding a “Meet The New Owners” open house from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, May 9.

This comes after news that original owner Kat Gordon was ready to sell her cupcake business after 18 years of operation. In April, Gordon made the announcement on her Instagram, describing Dempsey and Hinkle as “invested in the Memphis community” that “deeply align with our mission & values, and are building out a strong operational support ‘back office’ that will allow the Muddy’s team to do what it does best – craftsmanship, hospitality and community.”

For those of you already in love with such signature Muddy’s items such as the Prozac cupcake and the Cocoa Crackle pie, there’s another delicious update. New ownership does not plan on changing the recipes, the brand itself or its staff. The name "Muddy's Bake Shop" will also remain.

Dempsey and Hinkle — who purchased Muddy’s through their friendship with Gordon — are of the locally owned Belltower Coffee, a family of businesses that includes Memphis coffee shops, a wine bar, a roastery and a pottery store. They are hosting the weekend's open house in effort to meet patrons, answer questions and explain just why they want to help continue the Muddy’s legacy.
