Christopher Nolan'snext movie hasn't even finished filming yet, but you can already buy a ticket. IMAX tickets for "The Odyssey," the highly anticipated new film from the Oscar-winning "Oppenheimer" director, went up for sale on Thursday, July 17 – exactly one year before it hits theaters. It's highly unusual for movie tickets to be made available so far in advance. They are typically not sold until a few weeks before a film's release. Like "Oppenheimer," Nolan's "The Odyssey" will be screening in 70mm, a type of high quality film that's bigger than the standard 35mm, in select locations across the country. According to IMAX's website, 16 theaters in the United States are selling tickets for "The Odyssey" in IMAX 70mm, though a seat may be hard to come by. As of the morning of July 17, Fandango's website showed that many screenings were already sold out. One year from 'The Odyssey':What we know so far about Christopher Nolan's next movie Based on the epic poem by Homer, "The Odyssey" will be led byMatt Damonas Odysseus alongside a star-studded cast that includesTom Holland,Zendaya,Anne Hathaway,Lupita Nyong'o,Charlize Theronand more A-listers. 'Oppenheimer':Christopher Nolan's new movie about nukes is 'the stuff of cinematic drama' The first trailer for the film debuted in front of screenings of "Jurassic World Rebirth" on July 2. But in keeping with Nolan's advocacy for the theatrical experience, the teaser has not been released online and can still only be watched in theaters. The footage is also playing before showings of "Superman." For Nolan, "The Odyssey" will come after one of the biggest success stories of the director's career. His movie "Oppenheimer" grossed nearly $1 billion at the global box office in 2023, an unheard of haul for a talky drama, and became his first film to win the Academy Award for best picture. Nolan also won best director, and starsCillian MurphyandRobert Downey Jr. won best actor and best supporting actor, respectively. Nolan has also directed acclaimed blockbusters like "Inception" and the "Dark Knight" Batman trilogy. The following U.S. locations are showing"The Odyssey" in 70mm IMAX. Pope Leo says he hopes to visit Turkey later this yearNew Foto - Pope Leo says he hopes to visit Turkey later this year

ROME (Reuters) -Pope Leo said on Thursday he hopes to travel to Turkey later this year for the 1,700th anniversary of a major Christian Church summit, in what would be the first foreign trip of his papacy. The early centuries of Christianity were marked by a lively debate about how Jesus could be both God and man, and the Church decided on the issue at the First Council of Nicaea - now known as Iznik in Turkey - in 325. "I hope to be able to meet you again, in a few months, to take part in the ecumenical commemoration of the anniversary of the Council of Nicaea," Pope Leo said in an audience with Orthodox and Catholic pilgrims from the United States. The pilgrims visited Leo at his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, near Rome, before continuing their journey to Istanbul. Earlier this month, the Turkish presidency said the pontiff had told Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan about his intention to visit her country. Leo, elected on May 8 following the death of Pope Francis, has not yet embarked on any foreign travels. Francis had been planning to go to Turkey to celebrate the anniversary of the Nicaea Council with Patriarch Bartholomew, the spiritual leader of the Eastern Orthodox Church. In May, after visiting Leo at the Vatican, Bartholomew told the Italian bishops' TV2000 broadcaster that a possible date for the pope's Turkish trip was November 30. 2 killed and several injured in Israeli strike on Gaza's only Catholic churchNew Foto - 2 killed and several injured in Israeli strike on Gaza's only Catholic church

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — An Israeli shell slammed into the compound of Gaza's only Catholic church on Wednesday, killing two people and wounding several others, according to witnesses and church officials. Among the injured was the parish's priest, who became a close friend of Pope Francis in the final months of the late pontiff's life. The shelling of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza also damaged the church compound, where hundreds of Palestinians have been sheltering from the war. Pope Leo XIV on Thursday renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza in response to the attack. In a telegram of condolences for the victims sent by the Vatican's No. 2, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Leo expressed "his profound hope for dialogue, reconciliation and enduring peace in the region." The pope was "deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and injury caused by the military attack,″ and expressed his closeness to the parish priest, the Rev. Gabriele Romanelli and the entire parish. Romanelli was very close to the latePope Francisand the two spoke often during the war in Gaza. Hundreds of people sheltered at the church The church compound was sheltering both Christians and Muslims, including a number of children with disabilities, according to Fadel Naem, acting director of Al-Ahli Hospital, which received the fatalities and people injured. The Catholic charity Caritas Jerusalem said the parish's 60-year-old janitor and an 84-year-old woman receiving psychosocial support inside a Caritas tent in the church compound were killed in the attack. Parish priest Romanelli was lightly injured. The Israeli military said it was aware of the damage caused at the church and is investigating. The Israeli military said it "makes every feasible effort to mitigate harm to civilians and civilian structures, including religious sites, and regrets any damage caused to them." Israel accuses Hamas militants of operating from civilians areas. In a rare move, the Israeli Foreign Ministry posted an apology on social media. "Israel expresses deep sorrow over the damage to the Holy Family Church in Gaza City and over any civilian casualty," the ministry said. Italian PremierGiorgia Meloniblamed Israel for the strike on the church. "The attacks on the civilian population that Israel has been demonstrating for months are unacceptable. No military action can justify such an attitude," she said. The church is just a stone's throw from Al-Ahli Hospital, Naem said, noting that the area around both the church and the hospital has been repeatedly struck for over a week. The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which also has a church in Gaza thatpreviously sustained damage from Israeli strikes, said the Holy Family Church was sheltering 600 displaced people, including many children, and 54 people with disabilities. It said the building suffered significant damage. Targeting a holy site "is a blatant affront to human dignity and a grave violation of the sanctity of life and the inviolability of religious sites, which are meant to serve as safe havens during times of war," the Church said in a statement. Separately, another person was killed and 17 injured Thursday in a strike against two schools sheltering displaced people in the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, according to Al-Awda Hospital. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the strike. Pope Francis spoke almost daily with Gaza church In the last 18 months of his life, Franciswould often call the lone Catholic churchin the Gaza Strip to see how people huddled inside were coping with a devastating war. Last year, he told CBS' "60 Minutes" that he calls a priest daily at 7 p.m. at the Holy Family Church to hear what was happening to the nearly 600 people sheltering at the facility. Only 1,000 Christians live in Gaza, an overwhelmingly Muslim territory, according to the U.S. State Department's international religious freedom report for 2024. The report says the majority of Palestinian Christians are Greek Orthodox but they also include other Christians, including Roman Catholics. Ceasefire negotiations continuing The strikes come as Israel and Hamas continue talks for a ceasefire in Gaza, though little progress has been made. According to an Israeli official familiar with the details, Israel is showing "flexibility" on some of the issues that have challenged negotiators, including Israeli presence in some of the security corridors the military has carved into the Gaza Strip. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were discussing ongoing negotiations, said Israel has shown some willingness to compromise on the Morag Corridor, which cuts across southern Gaza. However, other issues remain, including the list of prisoners to be freed and commitments to end the war. The official says there are signs of optimism but there won't be a deal immediately. The war began with Hamas' cross-border attack on Oct. 7, 2023. That day, militants killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducted 251 people, most of whom have since been released in ceasefire agreements or other deals. Fifty hostages are still being held, less than half of them believed to be alive. Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed over 58,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which has said women and children make up more than half of the dead. It does not distinguish between civilians and militants in its tally. The ministry is part of the Hamas-run government but is led by medical professionals. The United Nations and other international organizations consider its figures to bethe most reliable count of war casualties. ___ Lidman reported from Tel Aviv, Israel. Colleen Barry in Milan, Josef Federman in Jerusalem and Sally Abou AlJoud in Beirut contributed.

Dozens killed as massive fire rips through shopping mall in eastern IraqNew Foto - Dozens killed as massive fire rips through shopping mall in eastern Iraq

A huge fire tore through a large shopping center in Iraq's eastern city of Kut on Wednesday, killing dozens of people and devastating a community. At least 61 people - including men, women and children - died in the blaze at the five-story Al-Kornish Hypermarket, and dozens more were rescued from the burning building, according to a statement from Iraq's Ministry of Interior on Thursday morning. "This heartbreaking fire claimed the lives of 61 innocent citizens, most of whom died from suffocation in the bathrooms due to the heavy smoke," the interior ministry said, adding that it was "a deeply tragic incident that has shaken (Iraq's) collective conscience." The bodies of 14 people remained unidentified, it said. Video footage geolocated by CNN showed the building engulfed by flames, with a group of people gathered on the rooftop as firefighters battled the blaze. People were seen being helped through small windows by emergency responders in another video from regional authorities. "Despite the severity of the situation, Civil Defense teams heroically managed to rescue more than 45 people who were trapped inside the building, with remarkable dedication and courage," said the interior ministry. The building, which housed a restaurant and hypermarket - a large supermarket - had only been open for seven days, the ministry said. Iraq's Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani requested a fully equipped medical team be sent to support the rescue efforts and instructed the Minister of Interior to immediately launch an investigation into the cause of the fire, according to a statement released by his office. Al-Sudani extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and was praying for them to find comfort, the statement said. The interior minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari said a high-level investigative committee would "identify all points of failure and responsibility" and that any party "found negligent" would be held to account. Three days of mourning for the victims has been declared in the Wasit region, the local governor, Mohammed Jameel Al-Mayahi, said in a post on Facebook. Al-Mayahi said details from an initial probe into the cause would be released within 48 hours. A legal case has been filed against the building owner, he added. Iraq has witnessed similar deadly incidents in the past, often attributed to a lack of adherence to civil defense regulations, and poor safety measures and electrical short circuits. In April 2021, a fire at Ibn al-Khatib Hospitalin Baghdadclaimed the lives of more than 80 patients in a COVID-19 isolation ward when oxygen tanks exploded. In September 2023, a fire ripped througha wedding hallin Qaraqosh in northern Iraq, killing at least 100 and injuring 150 others. This is a developing story and will be updated.
