Matt Damon Reignites 'Feud' with Jimmy Kimmel as He Competes on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire": See If He Won the $1 Million Prize

Gabe Ginsberg/Getty; Andreas Rentz/Getty Warning: This story contains spoilers from the July 30 episode ofWho Wants to Be a Millionaire. Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel reignited their years-long "feud" on the July 30 episode ofWho Wants to Be a Millionaire Damon surprised Kimmel when he showed up last week asJeopardy!host Ken Jennings' trivia partner on the game show Find out if Jennings and Damon were able to win the $1 million grand prize this week Ken JenningsandMatt Damonjust won $1 million, much toJimmy Kimmel's dismay. Jennings, along with trivia partner Damon, won the grand prize when they correctly answered the 15th and final question on the July 30 episode ofWho Wants to Be a Millionaire. The duo won the money forWater.org, Damon's nonprofit that helps bring clean water to communities in need. As the confetti dropped in celebration, Damon told Jennings this would reach 200,000 people through the charity. "I'm begrudgingly going to shake your hand," Kimmel, 57, jokingly told Damon, 54, as they held the oversized check alongside Jennings, 51. Kimmel and Damon'splayful "feud"started in 2005 when Kimmel made a playful dig at Damon onJimmy Kimmel Live!, and has been going strong ever since. Disney/Christopher Willard https://people-app.onelink.me/HNIa/kz7l4cuf The $500K question read: "With another career path already established, who got his first taste of the entertainment world when he entered a Steve Martin look-alike contest?" Possible answers for this question included Dr. Oz, Jerry Springer, Bill Nye or Anthony Bourdain. After going back and forth a bit, Jennings and Damon decided to use the "As the Host" lifeline. "I know the answer to this one," Kimmel said, pointing to Nye as the correct answer. Jennings and Damon trusted Kimmel, and the host gloated that it was he who answered correctly. The $1 million question read: "Which of these words is often used to describe one of the most beautiful auditory effects on Earth: the sound made by leaves of trees when wind blows through them?" Possible answers included Apricity, Petrichor, Susurrus or Eudaemonia. Jennings was excited that a word that popped into his head before the potential answers were shown was close to one of the four: Susurrus. He also noted that he knew what Petrichor meant, saying it was "that smell after rain falls … that rainy smell." Deciding to play it safe, the duo opted to use their 50:50 lifeline, which left two answers on the board — Petrichor or Susurrus — which made them feel comfortable going with Jennings' first thought. Kimmel dubbed this "the least dramatic million-dollar moment inWho Wants to Be a Millionairehistory," because they were correct. Disney/Christopher Willard In the July 23 episode, Kimmel introduced Jennings as possibly "the greatest game-show contestant of all time," joking, "He won so many games onJeopardy!, they asked him to host the show." Jennings, who holds the record for the most consecutive games won (74) and the highest winnings in regular-season play ($2,520,700), took over as host ofJeopardy!in 2021 after the death of longtime hostAlex Trebekthe previous year. Jennings admitted he was "a little stressed out" to be there, and Kimmel noted that Jennings told him at a party thatMillionairewas harder thanJeopardy!. "I mean,Jeopardy!has tough stuff, but onJeopardy!, if you don't know a particular clue, you can just hang back and wait for the next one," Jennings explained. "Here, a miss really can stop you." Disney/Christopher Willard "This is like if you challenged me to a pick-up basketball game and I showed up at the park with Michael Jordan, 'cause this dude is the Michael Jordan of trivia," Damon told Kimmel of Jennings. Kimmel disagreed, firing back, "I look at it as if Michael Jordan showed up with a hemorrhoid." After Damon exclaimed that he finally made it on Kimmel's show, Kimmel — who called this a "betrayal" from Jennings — shouted back that this wasn't his show, referring toJimmy Kimmel Live!. "I'm not on your stupid show, I'm onWho Wants to Be a Millionaire," Damon replied. "That's way better." Judge dismisses lawsuit filed by Alec Baldwin for malicious prosecution in fatal 'Rust' set shootingNew Foto - Judge dismisses lawsuit filed by Alec Baldwin for malicious prosecution in fatal 'Rust' set shooting

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by actor Alec Baldwin for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations in the 2021 fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the Western movie "Rust." The judge in a ruling made public Wednesday dismissed the case without prejudice for lack of any significant action with the claim, which was filed in state district court earlier this year. Baldwin's attorneys will have 30 days to file a motion seeking reinstatement. Luke Nikas, Baldwin's lead attorney, told The Associated Press in an email that the dismissal amounted to a nonevent since his team has been waiting to prosecute the case. "We have been in good-faith settlement discussions with the parties to the lawsuit and will be refiling promptly if those discussions are not promptly and favorably resolved," he said. Defendants includespecial prosecutor Kari Morrisseyand Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, along with three investigators from the Santa Fe County sheriff's office and the county board of commissioners. Acharge of involuntary manslaughteragainst Baldwin was dismissed at trial last year on allegations that police and prosecutors withheld evidence from the defense. The trial was upended by revelations that ammunition was brought into the Santa Fe County sheriff's office months earlier by a man who said it could be related to the killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The allegations in Baldwin's tort claim include defamation, with his attorneys saying that prosecutors and investigators targeted the actor and coproducer for professional or political gain. Hutchins died shortly after being wounded during a rehearsal for the movie"Rust"in October 2021 at a film-set ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Baldwin was pointing a pistol at Hutchins when it discharged, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin has said he pulled back the hammer — but not the trigger — and the revolver fired. The actorrecently spoke to The Associated Pressat San Diego's Comic-Con International, saying he couldn't believe what happened that day in court as the trial came to an abrupt end and that his life over the last year has been far better than the few years that preceded it. Still, Baldwin and other producers of "Rust" are being sued in New Mexico state court by the parents and younger sister of Hutchins. Court records show a deposition for Baldwin in that case was put off in May and has yet to be rescheduled.

Puerto Rico declares emergency and activates National Guard over water outagesNew Foto - Puerto Rico declares emergency and activates National Guard over water outages

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) —Puerto Rico'sgovernor declared a state of emergency on Wednesday and activated the National Guard after thousands of homes were left without water. Nearly 180,000 customers were affected at the peak of the outage late last week. As of Wednesday, nearly 3,000 customers were still without water, including nearly a dozen hotels, according toGov. Jenniffer González. The problem has angered many on the island of 3.2 million people, especially because the state water and sewer authority has declined to name the company responsible for damaging a main water line while repairing a road last week. Municipal officials have set up water distribution points and have gone home-to-home to distribute drinking water, with the National Guard now expected to help with those duties. "As long as I have 11 hotels without water and residents without service, of course we have an emergency," González said. The governor also named a special coordinator charged with stabilizing the water system, investigating the water and sewer authority and determining how the incident occurred. He is expected to issue a report in the next 10 days. González said that the water and sewer authority's executive director, who has come under fire, would remain in that position. Before the widespread incident occurred, dozens of communities across Puerto Rico had long experienced issues withwater supply. ____ Follow AP's coverage of Latin America and the Caribbean athttps://apnews.com/hub/latin-america
