  • In his return to the NFL, the Colts' new quarterback gets an additional five years of health insurance benefits

  • Rivers, who shares 10 children and one grandchild with his wife Tiffany, retired from the NFL in 2021

Philip Riversis passing along an extra perk that comes with his un-retirement: health insurance!

The 44-year-old Indianapolis Colts quarterback, who returned to the NFL on Sunday, Dec. 14 nearly five years after his retirement in 2021, is now eligible to receive coverage for himself and his wife, Tiffany, and their 10 children for an additional five years.

Rivers' health insurance benefits were due to expire in August 2026,according to The Athletic.

NFL players receive five years of medical and dental insurance after their retirement thanks to the 2006 agreementbrokered by the NFL Players Association.

Rivers' most recent stint in the league also means another change — his possible entry into the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be delayed until five years after he retires again.

For the former Chargers signal-caller, the return to pro game has been a "blast" so far, he told reporters after the 18-16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Rivers threw for 120 yards with one touchdown and one interception, but the Alabama native couldn't secure the win for the Colts, who lost starting quarterbackDaniel Jonesthe week before to a season-ending torn Achilles.

Rivers regaled reporters after the game with his thoughts on his emotional return.

"If I can stay healthy, I feel good, and it is going to get better as we go," he said, as Rivers and the Colts hope to secure a spot in the playoffs in their remaining three games.

The grandfather, who was most recently coaching his sons' high school team, then tried to take the focus off himself.

"This isn't about me," he said. "We have a team scrapping like crazy to try and stay alive and get into the postseason."

Giants waive K Younghoe Koo just weeks after wild botched field-goal attempt

Just a few weeks after hiswild botched field-goal attempt, Younghoe Koo is out in New York.

The Giants waived the kicker Tuesday, ending his short run with the franchise this season. Koo spent five games with the Giants, and marked the third kicker the team has used this campaign.

While a waived kicker isn't the biggest news, especially for a Giants team with a 2-12 record that is currently on pace to receive the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft next spring, Koo's exit came just weeks after a ridiculous missed field-goal attempt.

Koo, in the first half of the team's 33-15 loss to the New England Patriots on Dec. 1, went to kick a 47-yard field goal. He completely missed the ball, and kicked just the turf instead. Holder Jamie Gillan had to scramble with it before getting tackled well behind the line of scrimmage.

It was the type of mistake rarely seen in the NFL.

"As I was driving to it, the bottom of the ball was slipping, so I pulled up on it," Koosaid after the game.

Koo missed two field-goal attempts, both from longer than 50 yards, in the team's 29-21 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday. The 31-year-old, who started the season with the Atlanta Falcons, is 6-of-9 on field goals this season and 13-of-14 on extra points.

The Giants will turn to a fourth kicker to close out the season. They had Graham Gano start the year, but had to turn to Gillan briefly due to injury.

The Giants will enter Sunday's game with the Minnesota Vikings on an eight-game losing skid with the worst record in the league. They have already been eliminated from the playoffs for a third straight season.

How Vegas sees NBA title odds changing with a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade: 'By far the best situation for both sides for me is San Antonio'

Now that Monday has passed and contracts signed during the offseason can be traded, the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market should heat up.

While Giannis himself hasn't demanded a trade yet, there has been plenty of smoke from offseason rumors about a conversation with the New York Knicks to anESPN reporta few weeks ago that Giannis and his agent were having discussions with Milwaukee Bucks management about his future.

Antetokounmpostrained his calf on Dec. 3— the same day as the ESPN report — and is expected to be sidelined for 2-4 weeks. Ahead of the upcoming Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, there will be plenty of discussions over potential destinations for one of the league's best players.

After all, the Bucks aren't close to contending for a title — Antetokounmpo's stated goal — as they currently have 300-1 odds to win the championship atBetMGM.

If Giannis were actually traded, where could he realistically go? And what would the betting impact be on the 2025-26 NBA title odds for his next team?

To answer that question, I asked Jeff Sherman, vice president of risk and longtime NBA oddsmaker at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, to compare the current and hypothetical future NBA title odds for nine teams that could potentially acquire Giannis.

Sherman believes one team — the San Antonio Spurs — stood out as the best destination for Giannis, both in terms of title odds impact and the potential package Milwaukee could receive in return.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Current odds: Even

Odds after a Giannis trade: -150

Sherman:"I don't think they're going to want to [make the deal]. I don't think a team has ever been positioned like they have outside of a couple in history. They just locked up the big three. It feels like you can only go backwards from where you're at, even adding Giannis to it. They do have that treasure trove of picks and flexibility. They could get anyone in the league they wanted. Have the picks and assets to do it, and can outbid anybody. Looking even better than last year's team, I think it's an extreme long shot.

[Check out all of Yahoo's sports betting content here in our new betting hub]

"I went to even money for the first time this morning. They've weathered injuries, and it's their system, their defense. If they added an MVP candidate in Giannis, I would go to -150. They're already so low that we're not overwhelmed with money at this point. They're one of our better positions."

San Antonio Spurs

Current odds: 18-1

Odds after a Giannis trade: +550

"By far the best situation for both sides for me is San Antonio. The Spurs can give up pieces that are attractive to the Bucks, and there is no state income tax. Even after missing out on Kevin Durant, I thought they could pivot to looking at Giannis. They have so many young players. They're good right now, even without Victor Wembanyama.

"I [was at 35-1 last week], down to 11-2 if San Antonio got Giannis. Slightly ahead of Denver, and I'd move Houston and the Lakers back. The Spurs would be No. 2 in the West. Probably Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, other young pieces and picks [to get it done]. So many pieces to keep or move."

New York Knicks

Current odds: 10-1

Odds after a Giannis trade: +600

"We're sitting at 10-1 right now. They're the starting point in the East. [Karl-Anthony] Towns, OG Anonouby, Josh Hart, and you'd probably have to get a third team involved because they'd need to supply some draft picks. This would be the scenario — he's got this year and next year on his contract. If he's told other teams he won't sign an extension, he could force his way here. Could be like Anthony Davis forcing his way to the Lakers from New Orleans. It would leave you with Jalen Brunson, Miles Bridges, Giannis and scarcity after that. I would go 6-1 on New York."

Houston Rockets

Current odds: 12-1

Odds after a Giannis trade: +600

They're another one behind San Antonio that has pieces and picks to give up. Could have Durant, Alperen Şengün and Giannis. They'd have to start with Amen Thompson and some other young pieces with him to make a deal. Market has 10-1, I'm at 12-1. They'd be close to Denver's number (6-1 to 7-1) with Giannis.

Detroit Pistons

Current odds: 20-1

Odds after a Giannis trade: +800

"Right now, to me, they're an Eastern mini-path of Oklahoma City. They're built with a leader in Cade Cunningham — it would be disruptive and they'd have to give up too much depth to do it. The fact that they're doing well, they're 20-1 to win the title and you look at the makeup of the East. Probably have to put them slightly ahead of the Knicks. I'd go 8-1 on Detroit."

Miami Heat

Current odds: 60-1

Odds after a Giannis trade: 12-1

"The one player they've tried to keep out of trade talks is Kel'el Ware, but if they gave up him, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and some picks, it might be enough. I think with Tyler Herro, Bam Adebadyo and Giannis and some pieces behind that, it would be similar to Atlanta. I'd have them at 12-1 with the coaching of Erik Spoelstra. Still slightly behind the Knicks. I'd go from 60-1 to 12-1 on them."

Atlanta Hawks

Current odds: 50-1

Odds after a Giannis trade: 14-1

"I don't think this would happen in a trade unless it involved Jalen Johnson. The way that he's thrust onto the scene this year, it wouldn't be an option for Atlanta if they didn't base a trade around him. They'd be left with Trae Young, Giannis, Kristaps Porziņģis. It would be the initial perception, after the dust settles, it might be a little higher than that. Just based on the East, I think 14-1."

Golden State Warriors

Current odds: 30-1

Odds after a Giannis trade: 14-1

"Could be Jimmy Butler, and Jonathan Kuminga is a guy they're trying to move. Golden State has some OK depth. But they'd be left left with Steph Curry and an aging Draymond Green. You'd probably deplete some of that depth [to make the deal]. From a fan perspective, it seems like the last shot to go for it. They're sitting at 30-1. It's an upgrade, but I'd have them in the conversation of where the Lakers are (12-1 or 14-1), behind Houston, Denver and OKC. I don't know how much sense that makes."

Toronto Raptors

Current odds: 100-1

Odds after a Giannis trade: 25-1

"They have some nice pieces there. We're sitting at 100-1. They've been struggling lately and showing some weaknesses. I'd go down to like 25-1 initially [after the trade] and it wouldn't surprise me if it floated back up to 30-1 or 40-1. I look at that team, it's the closest to what Milwaukee has now. You'd be left with Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley. It wouldn't be a title-contending team. They'd have to include [Scottie] Barnes in the trade."

Boxing star Terence Crawford (42-0, 18 titles) announces retirement

Undefeated boxing star Terence Crawford announced his retirement from the sport Tuesday.

"Walking away as a great with nothing else left to prove," he said in a post on X.

Crawford reached the top of the sport before leaving the ring. He won the biggest fight of his career in September when he defeated Mexican great Canelo Alvarez to become the undisputed super middleweight world champion.

That victory made Crawford the first boxer in modern history to be an undisputed champion in three divisions (light welterweight, welterweight, super middleweight).

Crawford, 38, retires 42-0 all time with an impressive 31 wins via knockout. He won 18 major world championships across five weight classes in a professional career that began in 2008.

The native of Omaha, Neb., was the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in boxing at the time of his retirement.

"I'm stepping away from competition, not because I'm done fighting but because I've won a different kind of battle. The one where you walk away on your own terms," Crawford said in a YouTube video. "This isn't goodbye, this is the end of one fight and the beginning of another."

He added: "I gave this sport every breath I had. Every scar, every triumph, every ounce of my heart. I've made peace with what's next. And now, it's time. Thank you."

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel hints at benching Tua Tagovailoa after poor Week 15 showing: 'Everything is on the table'

The Miami Dolphins are crumbling. With three weeks left in the regular season, the Dolphins have nothing to play for, and that could lead to a major change at quarterback.

Tua Tagovailoa's days as the team's starter might be numbered following his poor performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15. When asked about the position Tuesday, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel hinted at a possible benching for Tagovailoa moving forward.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters in Miami Gardens there is the potential of benching Tua and making a change at quarterback."The QB play last night was not good enough, and everything is on the table."

— David Furones (@DavidFurones_)December 16, 2025

Tagovailoa wound up posting a pretty solid game statistically, but an early interception mired the start. Tagovailoa finished the contest 22-of-28 for 253 yards and two touchdowns. He threw one interception and was sacked four times inthe 28-15 loss to the Steelers.

With that interception, Tagovailoa now leads the NFL with 15 picks. He and Geno Smith were tied coming into Week 14, but an injury to Smith opened the door for Tagovailoa to take back the lead in the category.

While Tagovailoa's overall numbers looked OK coming out of Week 15's game, the decision to bench him wouldn't be based on a single-game performance. As Tagovailoa's 15 interceptions suggest, the 27-year-old has struggled to put together strong performances this season.

In fact, this isn't the first time McDaniel has mentioned the possibility of benching Tagovailoa. Followingthe Dolphins' 31-6 lossto the Cleveland Browns in Week 7, McDaniel initiallyrefused to commit to Tagovailoa startingthe next week. McDaniel even used the same phrase at the time, saying, "Everything is on the table."

McDaniel quickly changed his tune following his first threat to bench Tagovailoa. But with the Dolphins eliminated from playoff contention and McDaniel likely coaching to keep his job, it could be time for a desperation play at quarterback.

Those desperations plays include former New York Jets first-round pick Zach Wilson and 2025 seventh-round rookie Quinn Ewers. It will be up to McDaniel to decide which one deserves to start if Tagovailoa is benched. McDaniel has moved the two around on the depth chart at times during the regular season.

Given the circumstances, it's unlikely either player turns things around for Miami. While the Dolphins have stuck with the coach thus far, the vibes in Miami haven't been strong since before the start of the regular season.

McDaniel almost certainly knows the odds are stacked against him, but probably feels he needs to make at least one last-ditch effort to try and save his job.

Diego Pavia is an NFL long shot. He'd be perfect as WWE heel

The nextWWEstar could be aHeisman Trophyrunner-up. Even better? They could be a premier heel.

If he hasn't had a tryout, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia just delivered one of the best first impressions for a potential wrestling career, showing maybe his post-college football career should be in the ring and not on the field.

It's no secret Pavia has become one of the most polarizing players in college football, with a story that is as incredible as his confidence and swagger. That was only proven when heshowed he was bitter about not winning the Heisman Trophy, with an expletive directed at the Heisman Trophy voters afterIndiana's Fernando Mendoza wonit by acomfortable margin.

It wasmet with swift backlash, including from Vanderbilt's athletic directoras the world saw Pavia as a sore loser. It was obvious he was going tohave to apologize for it.

Not the best look for his football career, but he ended up making a great audition for WWE. You could view it as an outburst — or promo.

There is a chance Pavia could get a shot in the NFL, but he's far from an early round prospect. He could expect to hear his name in day three of the NFL draft, if any front offices are still intrigued despite his size (5-9) and temperament. Chances are he makes it to training camp but faces an uphill battle to last a season.

That's where wrestling comes in. Recently, WWE has made a push to target college athletes through its "next in line" program, helping athletes transition to the business after graduating. It's worked, with stars like Oba Femi, Sol Ruca, Bron Breakker shining after making the jump.

Pavia is already half way to proving he could do it. You may think his reaction was awful, but that was as good of a heel performance you could put on. Pavia showed he'd fit right in with the bad guys of wrestling. No one understood it better than Pat McAfee, who doubles as a WWE commentator during the football off-season.

"I don't think I've seen anybody have a bigger heel turn in one weekend than Diego Pavia," McAfee said on his show Dec. 15. "Anybody who's flashy and talks a lot of (expletive) is going to be hated by a group of people regardless. But this weekend, with how it all went, I think a lot of people kind of turned on Diego Pavia."

People already don't like Pavia, so could you imagine him getting in the ring, in a place where he can unapologetically himself and speak however he wants? The crowd would boo him endlessly, and that would be gold for WWE's pockets.

The best comparison would be to Logan Paul. The social media star came into WWE already disliked, knew it and used it to his advantage to become a top heel. You may not like that he came into the wrestling world, but Paul has all the characteristics to be a villain.

Of course, wrestling isn't all just delivering promos. Paul works well in WWE cause he knows how to wrestle. Pavia does have a wrestling background, winning a New Mexico state title in high school. That helps with a start, but the business of sports entertainment is a whole different monster, and he'd have to be open to learning how to last in the ring. Talking smack can only get you so far if you can't prove you belong in between the ropes.

Pavia's future seems quite uncertain. He did work his way up from no Division I football offers out of high school and junior college football to leading Vanderbilt to its first 10-win season. He could find a way to earn a shot in the NFL and end up finding success there — or possibly the CFL.

But if Pavia really wants a chance to thrive after college, wrestling could be the golden ticket. It has a worldwide fan base that is always on the hunt to find its next star to boo for speaking their mind, especially when it's someone notable.

And the best part, Pavia won't have to apologize to anyone for being himself.

RJ Harvey injury update: Latest on Broncos RB for Week 16

TheDenver Broncosbecame the first team to clinch a playoff spot in the AFC in Week 15, but it came at a bit of a price.

Rookie running backRJ Harveyexited the game in the fourth quarter with a rib injury and did not return. He is listed as questionable to play inWeek 16against theJacksonville Jaguarsas of Dec. 16.

Harvey has been one of Denver's big breakout players of 2025 in his first season in the pros. Through 15 weeks, Harvey leads theBroncoswith 10 touchdowns – six as a rusher and four as a receiver.

The Broncos' second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft has been a valuable complementary piece to veteran J.K. Dobbins in the backfield. For the last four weeks, Harvey had served as Denver's starting running back with Dobbins dealing with a serious foot injury that landed him on injured reserve (IR).

Now, Harvey is hurt. Will he miss time with his rib injury? Here's the latest injury update:

<p style=Week 1: Detroit Lions wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa (18) makes a catch for a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers during the fourth quarter at Lambeau Field. The play was originally ruled an incomplete pass, but the call was overturned. Despite TeSlaa's effort, the Packers won the game 27-13.

BRONCOS:Bo Nix was booed. Now he's helping lead Denver's playoff charge

When will RJ Harvey return?

The Broncos have not yet had their first practice of Week 16, so it's unclear for now whether Harvey will miss time. The rookie running back's status at Denver's Wednesday session – either as a non-participant, limited participant or full go at practice – will give a better indication of his Week 16 status.

Harvey sustained a rib injury on his 19th and final carry against the Green Bay Packers on Dec. 14. The Broncos ruled him questionable to return to the game, but Harvey remained sidelined for the rest of the outing.

Denver did add another running back to its active roster on Dec. 15. The Broncos claimed Cody Schrader off of waivers from the Houston Texans, which could indicate that Denver was seeking extra running back depth for Week 16 (and perhaps beyond) in anticipation of Harvey missing time.

Until the Broncos release their first injury report of the week on Dec. 17, Harvey's status for Week 16's game against theJaguarswill remain murky.

RJ Harvey stats

Harvey has been one of the Broncos' biggest breakout players of 2025, as he's managed to lead the team in touchdowns through 15 weeks of his rookie season.

Here's a closer look at all of Harvey's numbers so far this year:

  • Carries: 110

  • Rushing yards: 419

  • Yards per carry: 3.8

  • Rushing touchdowns: 6

  • Targets: 43

  • Receptions: 37

  • Receiving yards: 247

  • Yards per reception: 6.7

  • Receiving touchdowns: 4

Harvey leads the Broncos in rushing touchdowns, is fourth on the team in receptions and sixth in receiving yards.

Broncos RB depth chart

  • RJ Harvey (questionable – ribs)

  • Jaleel McLaughlin

  • Tyler Badie

  • Cody Schrader

  • J.K. Dobbins (IR – foot)

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported in November that Dobbins, the Broncos' lead running back, is expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing foot surgery. Dobbins has been on IR since Nov. 15 and could return in the playoffs.

Schrader is the most recent addition to the Broncos' running backs room, having joined the active roster on Dec. 15 after Denver claimed him on waivers from the Texans. Given his status as a newcomer, he'll most likely be more of a depth piece while McLaughlin and Badie split carries if Harvey misses Week 16.
