Draymond Green leaves Warriors win over Magic early after heated argument with Steve Kerr: 'We had it out'

Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green left Monday night's win over the Orlando Magic early after he got into an argument with head coach Steve Kerr.

Green and Kerr were seen in a heated discussion during a timeout in the third quarter of the Warriors' 120-97 win over the Magic, though it wasn't clear what that argument was about. It was, though, extremely animated on the bench. At one point, it looked like Moses Moody tried to step in and calm Green down, but he later gave up and sat back down.

Eventually, Green walked off the floor and went back to the locker rooms at the Chase Center.

"Tempers spilled over and I just thought it was best that I get out of there," Green said after the game, via ESPN's Anthony Slater. "I don't think that was a situation where it was gonna get better. So, it was just best to remove myself. That's it."

Kerr declined to reveal what their tiff was actually about, but reiterated that Green leaving the floor was a personal choice. He didn't send Green to the locker room.

"We got into it, obviously … We had it out a little bit, and he made his decision to go back to the locker room to cool off," Kerr said. "That's all I'm gonna say about it, everything is private. I've got nothing further to add."

Green did return to the Warriors' bench before the end of the game, but he did not take the floor again. He wasn't going to, Kerr said.

"Well, he left," Kerr said plainly. "He went back to the locker room."

Green finished with nine points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes on Monday night. He's averaged eight points and six rebounds per game this season, his 14th in the league.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 26 points in the win, which pushed the team to 15-15 on the season. Jimmy Butler added 21 points, and Moody finished with 20 points. Paolo Banchero led the Magic with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the loss, and Desmond Bane added 20 points. They shot just 7-of-27 from the 3-point line as a group, and now sit at 16-13 on the season.

Though Green has been known to get into some heated altercations throughout his career, he's appeared to have had a great relationship with Kerr. The Warriors selected Green in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft, and he's spent his entire career with the franchise. Kerr took over as the team's head coach ahead of the 2014-15 campaign, and Green has been a key part of the four championships they've won at Golden State.

Clearly, Green and Kerr aren't on the same page right now. Though he didn't fully get into the root of the argument, it was just the game that set Green off.

"Basketball. It's what we do, we play basketball," Green said when asked what caused their argument. "It's an emotional game, people lose their emotions sometimes. It happens, it is what it is.

"We've been at this now for a long time. So, sometimes when you with people for a long time, there's a level of comfort and s**t happens. We move forward."

While the incident was out of character, both Green and Kerr seem confident that they can move forward.

"We need Draymond. He's a champion," Kerr said. "We've been together for a long time … It's unfortunate what happened, but it happened."

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Jalen Duren had 26 points and 10 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons held off the Portland Trail Blazers 110-102 on Monday night after blowing a 21-point lead.

Ausar Thompson added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Eastern Conference-leading Pistons (23-6). Duncan Robinson scored 15 and Cade Cunningham had 14 before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.

Shaedon Sharpe led the Trail Blazers (12-17) with 25 points on 11-of-21 shooting but also committed eight turnovers. Deni Avdija added 18 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.

Draymond Green, Steve Kerr have heated exchange in huddle during timeout before Green leaves court

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Warriors forward Draymond Green had aheated exchangewith coach Steve Kerr in the huddle during a third-quarter timeout Monday night and then went to the locker room on his own to cool down.

Kerr said even once Green returned to the bench for the finish ofGolden State's 120-97 winagainst the Orlando Magic he wasn't going to play again after what happened.

"We got into it obviously and I took the timeout just because I thought we lost our focus there a little bit," Kerr said. "We had it out a little bit and he made his decision to go back to the locker room to cool off and that's all I'm going to say about it. Everything is private. I've got nothing further to add."

Green contributed nine points and seven rebounds in nearly 18 minutes afterbeing ejected early in the second quarterSaturday against Phoenix for consecutive technicals.

"Tempers spilled over and I just thought it was best that I get out of there," Green said. "I don't think there was a situation where it was going to get better so it was just best to remove myself. That's it."

Green said he was available to play again but it wasn't his decision — and he had stiffened up by then, too.

"I thought I owed it to my teammates to be there. I'm not going to quit on my teammates," he said.

Golden State's 15-15 record is hardly what this group expected at this stage, and Green noted "that's probably why tempers are flaring."

"Basketball, it's what we do," he said of what caused the frustration. "We play basketball, it's an emotional game. People lose their emotions sometimes, it happens."

He said of leaving for the locker room, "I just thought that was best for me" and afterward he felt a responsibility to speak with the media "for sure." Assistant coach Anthony Vereen accompanied Green.

Stephen Curry said his observation was Kerr and Green "just having a good conversation."

"That's kind of for them to talk about, not me," the star guard said.

Curry said there were positive, winning vibes in the locker room after a nice win and "I'm pretty sure we know how to be professional."

Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski said Green "was a great teammate on the bench" after coming back.

"It'll get figured out," Podziemski said.

Asked if he thinks the issue will linger, Kerr said: "No."

"The group's ready to go, you could see in the game tonight," he explained. "We need Draymond. He's a champion. We've been together for a long time. All we can do is the rest of the group keep pushing, keep getting better. I thought this was one of our better games. I thought the first half was brilliant — we just didn't make shots. I thought Draymond played great."

Stephen Curry's big second half carries Warriors past Magic 120-97

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Stephen Curry roared back from a rough first half to score 18 of his 26 points after intermission, Jimmy Butler had 21 points and the Golden State Warriors ran away from the Orlando Magic in the second half for a 120-97 win Monday night.

Curry played on a tender left ankle and missed his initial six 3-point tries — beginning 3 for 13 from the floor — before finally connecting from deep with 8:20 left in the third quarter to pull the Warriors within 71-69. That was all it took to get Golden State rolling on a 14-4 run.

The two-time MVP shot 10 for 23 overall, making 4 of 13 3s. He had six assists and two of his team's eight steals.

Paolo Banchero had 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, and Desmond Bane scored 20 points for Orlando in the first night of a road back-to-back.

Moses Moody scored 20 points for the Warriors, while Brandin Podziemski came off the bench to finish with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds. Draymond Green contributed nine points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes a game after being ejected early in the second quarter Saturday against Phoenix.

Golden State guard Buddy Hield had his streak of 199 straight regular-season games played snapped in Saturday's 119-116 win over the Suns, but hit a late 3-pointer Monday. Jonathan Kuminga didn't play again after missing the last game with an illness.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr hopes to have center Al Horford back Thursday from a seven-game absence because of right sciatic nerve irritation.

Magic: Visit Portland on Tuesday night to complete a four-game road trip.

Warriors: Host Dallas on Thursday for a Christmas Day matinee.

Team official to investigate drinking habits of England cricketers during Ashes tour

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — England's managing director of men's cricket Rob Key says he will investigate the drinking habits of the England team following reports that their mid-Ashes beach break may have involved over-indulging of alcohol.

England lost each of the first three tests to allow Australia toretain the Ashesin just 11 days of on-field action.

The squad visited the resort town of Noosa on the Sunshine Coach north of Brisbane between the second and third tests, a long-planned part of the itinerary designed to help players relax and unwind on the long tour.

Key, who did not join the players in Noosa, said he had no problem with the break, but would not be happy if he found evidence of over-indulging.

"If there's things where people are saying that our players went out and drank excessively, then of course we'll be looking into that," he said Tuesday in Melbourne, where the fourth test begins Friday.

"Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol for an international cricket team is not something that I'd expect to see at any stage and it would be a fault not to look into what happened there. From everything that I've heard so far, they actually were pretty well behaved. Very well behaved."

He added: "We've got enough ways of finding out exactly what happened and everything that I've heard so far that they sat down, had lunch, had dinner, didn't go out late, all of that, had the odd drink. I don't mind that. If it goes past that, then that's an issue as far as I'm concerned."

Key also said he had previously looked into reports that players had been spotted drinking the night before a match in New Zealand shortly before the Ashes.

A short clip of white-ball captain Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell was shared by a member of the public on social media, said to have been taken while they were out in Wellington before the thirdone-day international on Nov. 1.

"I didn't feel like that was worthy of formal warnings, but it was probably worthy of informal ones," he said.

"I think that was a bit of a wake-up call actually for what they're going into. I don't mind players having a glass of wine over dinner. Anything more than that, I think is ridiculous, really."

Mason Marchment scores 2 power-play goals, Kirill Marchenko adds 1 as Blue Jackets beat Kings 3-1

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mason Marchment scored two power-play goals, Kirill Marchenko had one, and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 on Monday night.

Jet Greaves made 23 saves and Damon Severson had two assists as Columbus snapped a four-game road losing streak.

Andrei Kuzmenko scored and Anton Forsberg made 27 saves as the Kings were held under three goals for the sixth straight game.

Columbus was without defenseman Zach Werenski, who is day-to-day with a lower body injury sustained blocking a shot against Anaheim on Saturday. Werenski leads the Blue Jackets in goals, assists and points, and his 14 goals is tied with Washington's Jakob Chychrun for most in the NHL by a defenseman.

However, newcomer Marchment made up for it, scoring twice in the first period and giving him three goals in two games since being acquired from Seattle on Friday. He opened the scoring 4:07 into the game with a wrist shot off Forsberg's blocker, before making it 2-0 with 23.5 remaining when Boone Jenner's shot took a double deflection and went in off Marchment's shoulder.

Kuzmenko got the Kings on the scoreboard with 1:19 remaining in the second, but Marchenko added a third power-play tally for the Blue Jackets with 5:46 remaining in the third. The three goals with the man-advantage was a season high, and it was the third time the Blue Jackets had multiple power-play goals.

Los Angeles was playing for the first time since trading third-line center Phillip Danault to Montreal on Friday, but newly-promoted bottom six centers Alex Turcotte and Samuel Helenius struggled to make a consistent impact with frequent penalties creating a choppy game flow.

Blue Jackets: Host the New York Islanders on Sunday.

Kings: Host Seattle on Tuesday.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - DECEMBER 22: Jauan Jennings #15 of the San Francisco 49ers catches a pass for a touchdown during the third quarter against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on December 22, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images)

Jauan Jennings couldn't resist having a little fun on Monday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Jennings caught a short 3-yard touchdown catch from Brock Purdy to kick off the second half of their matchup with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, and immediately bolted toward a pair of fans sitting in the corner of the end zone. Jennings reached out with the ball, too, and seemed ready to hand it off to a woman sitting in the front row.

But right as Jennings reached her, he ripped the ball back, turned and sprinted the other way to celebrate instead in what was an incredible troll job. The woman's face, and outstretched hands, said it all.

Brutal. But, with Jennings in enemy territory, it's hard to blame him.

The touchdown reception marked just the second catch that Jennings had made all night. It put the 49ers up 31-17 at the time, too. Jennings now has eight total touchdowns this season. The 28-year-old entered Monday night's contest with 495 receiving yards on 44 catches.

San Francisco came into the game with a 10-4 record, which has them in third in the NFC West standings. The 49ers already clinched a playoff spot, however, so a loss to the Colts wouldn't completely ruin their postseason hopes.

They are not out of their divisional race by any means, though, so a strong finish — both on Monday night and the rest of the way in their final two games of the regular season against the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks — would be extremely helpful come playoff time.
