For *The Vampire Diaries* creatives, casting Enzo was a particularly difficult task. Because originally, the role was going to be very different.

"You were supposed to be the third Salvatore brother," executive producer Julie Plec tells star Michael Malarkey in episode 8 of *EW's Binge: The Vampire Diaries*. Writer Brett Matthews adds, "That was always the plan, and then it went a different direction, but that's why it was so hard to find the person. We thought it was going to be a Salvatore brother, so we cast a very wide net [and] looked very hard." Ultimately, they scrapped that plan and made it so Enzo didn't share Salvatore blood, but he was a brother figure for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) for many years (and he was sired by Lily Salvatore).

But that wasn't the only plan that changed in the writers' room over the years. In discussing the *Vampire Diaries*' final season, Plec and Matthews recall the final major debate: Which Salvatore were they going to kill in the series finale? "We went back and forth in the writers' room all season long," Plec says. "We finally landed on: We're killing Damon. That's the right thing to do. He is the one with the consequence to pay. Stefan was morally a bit stronger of a character."

Matthews adds, "Damon's a fairly obvious choice," noting that the writers really fell in love with the idea of Damon compelling Stefan (Paul Wesley) to let him die. But when executive producer Kevin Williamson proposed that it should be Stefan that dies, they started to rethink their plan. "It felt like dying for Stefan freed him from a lot of weight, whereas it felt like living for Damon freed him to go and be the man that he was always supposed to be," Plec says.

Of course, both Salvatores were meant to die in the original ending Plec and Williamson came up with during the show's second season. In that ending, "The boys would sacrifice themselves to save Elena so that Elena could go and have a life and be human and live," Plec recalls during the podcast. "To save her, they would die together, and that was always the pitch. And then when Nina [Dobrev] left, it felt like the show can't be as much about protecting Elena's happiness, although that's important to us, but we want to protect the bothers' happiness, we want them to get something out of this. Then it shifted to: We can't kill both of them for her because that feels somehow like nobody got what they wanted. Let's find a different way to give one of these brothers the happiness that they need and the other brother the closure that they need."

(One other way Dobrev leaving changed the plan? Plec says, "I thought that by the time we came back to the end of the series, whenever it was, that Elena would've found her way back to Stefan and Damon would've found a different path.")

(Reuters) -Nvidia's advanced Blackwell chip for artificial intelligence would not be available to "other people," U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday.

Nvidia, the world's most valuable company, dominates the market for AI chips.

Questions have swirled about whether Trump would allow shipments of a version of the Blackwell to China since August, when he suggested he might allow sales of a scaled-down version of Nvidia's next-generation advanced GPU chip in China.

However, Trump's remarks to reporters aboard Air Force One suggest his administration may not be inclined to grant broad overseas access to the prized chip.

"The new Blackwell that just came out, it's 10 years ahead of every other chip," Trump said as he flew to Washington after a weekend in Florida. "But no, we don't give that chip to other people," he added.

The possibility that Blackwell chips might be sold to Chinese firms has drawn criticism from China hawks in Washington, who fear the technology would supercharge China's military capabilities and accelerate its AI development.

Republican Congressman John Moolenaar, who chairs the House Select Committee on China, said such a move "would be akin (to) giving Iran weapons-grade uranium."

Trump had hinted he might discuss the chips with Chinese President Xi Jinping ahead of their summit in South Korea last week, but ultimately said the topic did not come up.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said last week that Nvidia has not sought U.S. export licenses for the Chinese market because of Beijing's stance on the company.

"They've made it very clear that they don't want Nvidia to be there right now," he said during a developers' event, adding that it needed access to China to fund U.S.-based research and development.

Nvidia said on Friday that it would supply more than 260,000 Blackwell AI chips to South Korea and some of the country's biggest businesses, including Samsung Electronics.

"Saturday Night Live" is taking on the White House's new look.

A pre-recorded sketch on the show's Nov. 1 episode parodied President Donald Trump's controversial demolition of the East Wing of the White House to make room for a 90,000-square-foot ballroom. The sketch depicted a "very special episode" of HGTV's "Property Brothers," with Miles Teller playing twin hosts Drew and Jonathan Scott as they are hired to build Trump's $300 million ballroom.

In the sketch, the brothers describe working with Trump (James Austin Johnson) on the remodeling, with Jonathan Scott saying they asked him "if he needed a permit," to which the president laughed and responded, "I could build this ballroom with the bones of my enemies and no one could stop me."

'SNL' takes on NYC mayoral debate: Host Miles Teller plays Andrew Cuomo in cold open

Drew Scott also explains he "told Donald that our No. 1 priority was to preserve the historic nature of the building," only for Trump to send him a GIF of the White House blowing up in "Independence Day."

Trump is shown repeatedly enlarging the ballroom on a computer model and making a board with visual inspirations, including Jabba the Hutt's palace from "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi." The sketch also mocked Trump for paving over the Rose Garden, with Jonathan Scott saying it now looks like "outdoor seating at an Olive Garden."

James Austin Johnson as President Donald Trump and Chloe Fineman as first lady Melania Trump on "Saturday Night Live" on Nov. 1, 2025.

Johnson's Trump ultimately declares his ballroom will be "ready just in time for my third term" because he's "not leaving" and will be "doing something called coup!" The sketch ends with Jonathan and Drew Scott going to Trump to get paid, only for the president to call in ICE agents to arrest them because they're Canadian.

Trump's demolition of the East Wing of the White House was also parodied this week on "South Park." In a special Halloween episode, Trump tearing down the East Wing unleashes a vengeful spirit, leading members of his administration to hold a seance.

A recent Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll found 56% of Americans oppose Trump's East Wing demolition and plans to construct a ballroom, with only 15% saying they "strongly support" it. Trump has said he is using private donations to pay for the project.

'South Park' skewers Pam Bondi: New episode also mocks Trump's East Wing demolition

Teller hosted the episode of "Saturday Night Live," which opened with a sketch parodying the New York City mayoral election, starring Teller as Andrew Cuomo, Ramy Youssef as Zohran Mamdani and Shane Gillis as Curtis Sliwa.

Woody Harrelson has no interest in doing another season of *True Detective.*

Only a few months after creator Nic Pizzolatto shared he had a new idea for a season starring Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, Harrelson has revealed in a new interview that he "never" wants to return to the HBO series.

On Friday's *3rd Hour of Today*, host Dylan Dreyer told Harrelson that McConaughey said he and Harrelson would be into doing another season if they "think it's good enough."

"Matthew's so funny," Harrelson said in response. "But in fairness, never. Not a chance."

Harrelson added that he only has positive reasons for not wanting to reprise his role of Det. Marty Hart in the mystery thriller drama.

"Because it turned out great," he said. "I love that it turned out the way it did. If anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that."

Harrelson's comments come as a surprise because earlier this year, Pizzolatto revealed that he has an idea for a new season of the show that would bring Harrelson and McConaughey back as Marty Hart and Rust Cohle, respectively. At the time, the former showrunner claimed that there were ongoing conversations with the actors about it.

"I actually have another story for Cohle and Hart that, who knows, maybe we'll do it one day," Pizzolatto said on the *Nothing Left Unsaid* podcast in May. "It's character-based again.... But it's not something I've written or anything. It's just [that] I had that in my head, and we've talked about getting back together and doing it. I think the guys are open to it. It's just a question of whether that would ever happen or not."

Harrelson and McConaughey starred in the first season of the HBO anthology series* *in 2014. The series won five Emmys for that season, and both actors were nominated for their performances.

*True Detective *continued in subsequent seasons with all-new casts, led by Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Mahershala Ali, Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaughn, Jodie Foster, and more.

Harrelson and McConaughey will next be seen together in the new Apple TV+ comedy series *Brother From Another Mother*, playing fictionalized versions of themselves living together on McConaughey's Texas ranch. A release date has not yet been set.**

Fans will be seeing more of Ariana Grande on the big screen next year.

Grande took to Instagram on Friday to announce that she has wrapped filming on the upcoming fourth installment in the "Meet the Parents" franchise, titled "Focker In-Law."

"These past few months have been so, so unimaginably special," she wrote in the caption. "I love my Fockers, and I love my Byrnes… so, so very much. I will miss this bunch terribly. See you next November!"

Grande's Instagram post also featured a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos from set, including her hugging Ben Stiller, who returns as Greg Focker, alongside another photo of her locking arms with Beanie Feldstein.

The fourth edition of the long-running 2000 comedy film series is set to hit theaters on Nov. 25, 2026.

Stiller, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo and Owen Wilson are returning for "Focker In-Law" with Skyler Gisondo also joining the cast.

John Hamburg, who wrote the first three films, directed and wrote the screenplay for the new installment.

While the plot details remain under wraps, Stiller teased the fourquel during a 25th anniversary screening of "Meet the Parents" at this year's Tribeca Festival.

"What spurred the idea is that I'm the age that Bob was when we did the first movie," Stiller said. "It felt like a mirror to the first film, where one of my kids is thinking about introducing his person to the family."

The first film, which centered on Greg Fockner (Ben Stiller) enduring many awkward encounters while trying to impress his girlfriend's parents before proposing, became a blockbuster hit, grossing $330 million worldwide.

Its success led to the 2004 comedy spawning into two more successful sequels: 2004's "Meet the Fockers" (which introduced Greg's parents, Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman) and 2010's "Little Fockers."

Wendi McLendon-Covey is opening up about being a cat mom — and why she thinks stepping up for animals is so important.

McLendon-Covey recently sat down exclusively with PEOPLE to catch up on life and chat about season 2 of her sitcom, St. Denis Medical. During the conversation, she opened up about her penchant for saving felines.

"When they show up in your yard and they need you, we can't look away," the actress, 56, said of her and her husband.

She continued, "I think my first pet was a kitty, and she was just so grateful to be rescued. And it's just such a small thing, but it's an important thing to show, 'Okay, someone's looking out for the little creatures.' Everything else is going to hell in a handbasket, but we found this little life and we're going to nurture it and give it a good home and maybe in some small way that's making a difference somewhere. I don't know."

"But they're cuddly, they're cute, they're hilarious. They all have their different personalities and they have their little meetings and their little way of talking to each other, and it's just fascinating to watch. So that's a hot Friday night for me, is just throwing treats to the cats," she added.

The Reno 911 star also said she believes nurturing an animal in need is almost a cosmic way of giving back.

And I can't bring him into the house yet because he's still a little too feral and sketchy, but I can get him in the backyard and I can make a nice little area for him there that he's comfortable in. From September to January 1, that's my season for decorating [...] because when it gets dark early, you want to look at something pretty."

PEOPLE went on to ask if the star ever sees people dressed up as her iconic characters during spooky season.

"Well, Clemy, Deputy Johnson [from Reno 911]. I see a lot of those around Halloween. A lot of Beverlys [from The Goldbergs]. And just a lot of crazy cat ladies because that is what I am. But people send me pictures, 'Thought of you, you were my inspiration.' [...] So that's really fun."

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was ruled out with a concussion after hitting his head on the turf against the visiting Denver Broncos on Sunday.

The Broncos' Kris Abrams-Draine levied a blow to the midsection of Stroud as he attempted to slide for a first down with 13:49 remaining in the first half. The hit resulted in Stroud slamming the back of his helmet against the turf. After receiving attention from the training staff, Stroud departed under his own power and was later escorted to the home locker room.

Stroud was 6-for-10 passing for 79 yards and led the Texans into field goal range on two drives. Davis Mills replaced Stroud under center with the Texans leading 3-0 and led a drive for an additional Houston field goal.

Sunday's concussion was the second for Stroud, who left a December 2023 game against the Jets after a hard tackle by Quinnen Williams. On that play,

the back of Stroud's helmet smacked the turf. He did not play in the next two Texans' games vs. Tennessee and Indianapolis.
