Trey McKinney, Yaxel Lendeborg and L.J. Cason each had 13 points for the Wolverines, who won their 11th straight andtook a big steptoward capturing their first outright Big Ten regular-season title in five years.

The win came one day after Michigan (25-1, 15-1)moved into the nation's top spotfor the first time since January 2013.

It was the 7-foot-3 Mara's early tone-setting presencethat helped the Wolverines turn the tables on Purdue's usually dominant front line as two-time national player of the year Zach Edey watched from the second row. Mara made each of his first four shots on the way to a 10-point, eight-rebound first half. He spent most of the second half in foul trouble, finishing 4 of 6 from the field as Michigan had a 39-31 rebounding advantage.

Trey Kaufman-Renn scored a season high 27 points to lead Boilermakers on a night most of his teammates struggled. Braden Smith added 20 points as the Boilermakers (21-5, 11-4) had their four-game winning streak end. They now trail Michigan by 3 1/2 games in the league race.

Michigan took control quickly by using an early 13-0 spurt to take a 23-10 lead. A 14-4 scoring flurry gave Michigan a comfortable 44-22 cushion with 4:23 left in the first half, forcing Purdue to futilely play catchup the rest of the night.

Folarin Balogun makes USMNT history with Champions League double vs. PSG

Folarin Balogun picked the ideal time to break out of his slump.

USA TODAY Sports

The Monaco striker scored two goals within the first 18 minutes against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

With his double in the playoff round first leg, Balogun became the first U.S. men's national team player to score more than one goal in a Champions League knockout stage game.

Only one other USMNT player has scored more than a goal in any Champions League game: Malik Tillman, who pulled off the feat just last month with Bayer Leverkusen.

The two goals took Balogun's season total to 10, five of which have come in the Champions League.

With his fifth goal, Balogun also broke Christian Pulisic's USMNT record for goals in a single Champions League season.

Balogun came into Tuesday's game with just one goal in his past 12 games, but found the net less than a minute into Tuesday's game at Stade Louis II.

The 24-year-old found some space in the six-yard box, getting on the end of Aleksandr Golovin's cross to head home from close range.

Less than 20 minutes later, Balogun played a neat one-two with Maghnes Akliouche and buried a low finish past PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov.

PSG would quickly strike back after going two goals down, leveling the game by halftime through goals from Désiré Doué and Achraf Hakimi.

Doué would score again midway through the second half, taking advantage of Golovin's red card earlier to give PSG a 3-2 win and a major advantage heading home for next week's second leg.

Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano will end their MMA retirements and fight each other in May

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano will end their lengthy retirements frommixed martial artsto fight each other May 16 at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

Associated Press

The two pioneering fighters announced their returns Tuesday for a bout that will be staged by Most Valuable Promotions, the combat sports promotion established by influencer-turned-boxerJake Pauland his business partner, Nakisa Bidarian. The show will be broadcast onNetflix.

The 39-year-old Rousey hasn't fought since 2016, while the 43-year-old Carano's eight-bout MMA career ended in 2009. They'll fight at 145 pounds for five five-minute rounds.

Despite their lengthy absences, Rousey and Carano remain two of the most iconic fighters in MMA history for their trailblazing careers. Carano led their once-outlawed sport into the mainstream of broadcast television, while Rousey secured the enthusiastic acceptance of women's MMA by Dana White and the UFC.

Rousey (12-2) rose to become arguably the biggest star in all of MMA after winning an Olympic medal in judo in 2008. Her armbar finishes and cage charisma singlehandedly prompted White to begin promotion of women's MMA, with Rousey at the center of his plans.

Rousey won the UFC's first-ever women's bout in 2013 to claim the bantamweight title belt, and she still holds the promotion's record with six title defenses. After ending 11 of her first 12 fights in the first round, her career abruptly stalled when she lost back-to-back bouts toHolly Holmand Amanda Nunes, prompting her to move on to acting, professional wrestling and motherhood.

"Been waiting so long to announce this: Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women's combat sport history!" Rousey said. "This is for all MMA fans past, present and future."

Carano (7-1) fought in the first Nevada-sanctioned MMA bout between women in 2006, and she won a series of fights that made her a network television draw in the sport's early days. She was stopped by Cris "Cyborg" Justino in her most recent fight in August 2009, and she moved on to an acting career despite repeated rumors of a return to the cage.

"Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for, and it has been her dream to make this fight happen between us," Carano said. "She thanked me for opening up doors for her in her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and me as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community."

Carano, who turns 44 in April, landed several prominent film roles and became a cast member ofDisney's "The Mandalorian" before her contract was not renewed in 2021 after she expressed controversial right-wing views in a series of social media posts.Carano settled a lawsuitlast year against Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company over her claim that she was fired for the posts.

Paul's Most Valuable Promotions is making its first foray into MMA promotion after four years of promoting boxing.

Doug Moe, former NBA player and Coach of the Year, dies at age 87

Former NBA player and coach Doug Moe has died at the age of 87, former NBA player Bill Hanzlikshared via Xon Tuesday. Hanzlik played under Moe for eight seasons with the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets later confirmed the news with a post in memoriam:

pic.twitter.com/EJeDNDFdmZ

— Denver Nuggets (@nuggets)February 17, 2026

Moe is credited with revolutionizing the "passing game offense" in the NBA, emphasizing constant movement and a notorious "two-second rule" — pushing players to either pass the ball or shoot as quickly as the rule's name would imply.

Moe spent four years as an assistant coach before earning his first job as a head coach with the San Antonio Spurs, leading the team to a 117-135 record over four seasons before heading to Denver as an assistant coach. He was then promoted to interim head coach and spent 10 seasons with the team.

Moe led the Nuggets to a 432-357 record over 10 seasons; those 432 wins made him the winningest coach in franchise history, prior to Michael Malone earning his 433rd win with the team in 2024. The Nuggets made the playoffs in each of Moe's nine seasons as a full-time head coach, though the Nuggets failed to ever make it past the conference finals.

Moe earned NBA Coach of the Year honors in the 1987-88 season. That year, the Nuggets finished first in the NBA Midwest with a 54-28 record, leading the league with 116.7 points per game. After defeating the Seattle SuperSonics in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, they fell in the semifinals to the Dallas Mavericks.

Despite leading the team to two Midwest Division titles in his tenure, Moe was fired by the Nuggets after the 1989-1990 season as the team looked toward its future under new leadership. Bernie Bickerstaff — the first African American president and GM in franchise history — was hired in the summer of 1990 andfired Moe not long after.

Moe was a two-time All-American out of UNC, selected first by the Detroit Pistons in the 1960 draft, followed by the former Chicago Packers (now Washington Wizards) in the second round of the 1961 draft. Despite having been drafted, his connection to a point-shaving scandal in college followed him, and he was eventually blackballed by the league for his connection to the alleged scheme, despite later being cleared of any wrongdoing.

Moe went on to earn theChuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Awardfrom the league in 2018.

Missouri eager to bolster NCAA resume vs. No. 19 Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt won five of its past six Southeastern Conference games despite playing short-handed.

Field Level Media

The No. 19 Commodores (21-4, 8-4 Southeastern Conference) will continue testing their depth when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face Missouri (17-8, 7-5) Wednesday night.

With two guards out with knee injuries, Duke Miles sidelined since Jan. 24 and Frankie Collins unavailable since Dec. 17, Tyler Tanner stepped up to average 25.8 points during a recent five-game span.

When Tanner got into foul trouble and scored just four points against Texas A&M on Saturday, other Commodores took over in an 82-69 win. Tyler Nickel put up 25 points, AK Okereke assumed more ball-handling responsibilities while contributing 23 points and Chandler Bing scored 11 points off the bench.

"Other guys are capable," Commodores coach Mark Byington said. "This team celebrates each other. No one's happier in the locker room than Tyler Tanner or anybody else. And that's why I like this group. They care about winning."

Miles, who averages 16.6 points per game, is closer to returning than Collins but is still questionable to play on Wednesday.

"Duke's attacking his rehab," Byington said. "He's doing workouts and things like that. He's competitive. He wants to get back (to) being a great teammate. I think we'll have him back soon. It's hard to give a timetable, but I think within a week or two for sure."

While Vanderbilt had a NET ranking of No. 13 through the weekend's games, Missouri dropped to No. 66 after absorbing an 85-68 home loss to Texas. That was just the Tigers' second loss at Mizzou Arena this season, and the result snapped Missouri's three-game overall winning streak.

The defeat was a big setback in Missouri's bid to reach the NCAA Tournament.

"It's not always as good as you think it is, and it's not always as bad as you think it is," Tigers coach Dennis Gates said. "Ultimately, we've gotta bounce back and be able to flush the game."

Once again, Missouri center Shawn Phillips Jr. was hindered by foul trouble. He played just 18 minutes against the Longhorns and was held to five points and two rebounds.

"Shawn is a defensive presence for us," Gates said. "He gives us, definitely, athleticism around the basket. It's just one of those things where some of the fouls that he picked up on the floor ... unfortunate flagrant. And he's probably leading the country in flagrant fouls. The other part of it is, is it the response or the initiation of the physicality? And I think he's always on the other side of reacting, and the second move in terms of being caught.

"So after watching film, I'll show him some things just in terms of where the referees were allowing physicality and where they're not allowing it."

The Tigers don't have another true center on the roster capable of defending and rebounding at the SEC level. The Tigers must deploy a zone defense when Phillips is out or play man-to-man with a smaller lineup and forward Mark Mitchell defending the post.

Gates said 6-foot-11 forward Jevon Porter is making progress in recovering from a leg injury, but Porter hasn't played since Dec. 14.

Bounce-back effort boosts No. 10 Illinois ahead of visit to USC

Tenth-ranked Illinois will take a swing through Los Angeles for a pair of crucial Big Ten Conference games this week, the first on Wednesday night against Southern California.

The Fighting Illini (21-5, 12-3 Big Ten) begin the week in a three-team tie for second place in the league's loss column, knotted with No. 7 Purdue (21-4, 11-3) and No. 9 Nebraska (22-3, 11-3), just behind No. 1 Michigan (24-1, 14-1).

USC (18-7, 7-7) sits in the middle of the conference pack.

Illinois slipped from the top of the conference with back-to-back overtime losses at Michigan State on Feb. 7 and to Wisconsin on Feb. 10, but the Illini bounced back on Sunday with a 71-51 home rout of Indiana.

David Mirkovic scored 25 points against the Hoosiers, his ninth consecutive double-figure point-scoring performance since the freshman was inserted into the starting lineup. The 25 points represented his personal best in Big Ten play.

The tone-setting effort came after Mirkovic took responsibility for the loss to the Badgers.

Illini coach Brad Underwood said, "I get an incredible text from Mirk after the Wisconsin game -- taking the blame for it because he wasn't mentally what he thought was at his best. (Mirkovic) practiced at a different level, and that showed off (against Indiana). He was dominant on both ends, and it's as focused defensively as I've seen him."

The 51 points to which the Illini held Indiana were the third-fewest Illinois allowed this season, just two weeks removed from limiting Northwestern to 44 points.

Along with strong defense -- Illinois ranks No. 49 nationally at 68.2 points allowed a contest -- the Illini have thrived with balanced offense. Mirkovic heads into Los Angeles as one of five Illinois scorers averaging in double figures per game.

His rate of 13 points per game joins Keaton Wagler at 18.5, Kylan Boswell at 14, Andrej Stojakovic at 13.7 and Tomislav Ivisic at 10.5. Stojakovic missed the past two games because of a high ankle sprain, and his availability for the Wednesday contest was uncertain.

After opposing the Trojans, Illinois plays at UCLA on Saturday before returning home to oppose Michigan on Feb. 27.

Among USC's season-long regulars, Chad Baker-Mazara leads the way with 18.3 points per game, while Ezra Ausar adds 15.7. Rodney Rice (20.3 ppg) sustained a season-ending shoulder injury in December. Alijah Arenas, who returned from a knee injury last month, has appeared in six games and has averaged 26 over the past three.

Jacob Cofie (9.9 points, 7.2 rebounds per game) reached double-figure scoring in three of the Trojans' past four outings.

Cofie was one of five Trojans to notch at least 12 at Ohio State on Feb. 11, led by Arenas' 25. Arenas is posting 15.4 points per game since joining the lineup the last month, bouncing back from a knee injury sustained in a car accident.

The first-year blue-chip prospect started slowly, scoring 30 combined points in his first four appearances but since ran off games of 29 and 24 before the 25 in an 89-82 loss to the Buckeyes.

The setback snapped USC's three-game winning streak and dropped the Trojans to .500 in the Big Ten. USC aims to use its week-long break since the loss to regroup, playing its next four in Los Angeles and three of the quartet at home.

"It's been a long year so far. I think this is a much-needed break for the guys," USC assistant coach Earl Boykins said per the school's website. "The three long trips we've taken this year are a lot. It's going to be good for them to get the break and for us to get in the gym and get back to the basics."
