It is introducing its done delivery service, Prime Air, to a new city[/caption]

Amazon is expanding its drone-delivery service, Prime Air, to a new set of customers.

The West Valley portion of Phoenix, Arizona, will be the next city to welcome this futuristic option.

Amazon said in an announcement on Monday that it hopes to implement the service later this year.

However, the e-commerce giant will first need Federal Aviation Administration and local government approvals.

As Prime Air moves into Phoenix, it is moving out of another area.

Amazon also revealed on Monday that it is ceasing done operations out of its facility Lockeford, California.

The company called the move part of a decision to "prioritize our resources to continue growing the program."

Prime Air remains available in College Station, Texas.

Meanwhile, Amazon has its sights set on other cities in the US in the future.

WHAT IS PRIME AIR?

Prime Air was launched in 2022 and uses autonomous drones to deliver packages to customers.

Walmart has the largest active network of drone delivery of any retailer[/caption]

Walmart is another major retailer that is now utilizing drone-delivery.

It currently offers this speedy option to customers in 31 areas across six states.

In January, it announced the largest expansion of done delivery of any US retailer as it made the service available to 1.8 million homes in the Dallas Forth-Worth area.

Drone delivery gives customers an even faster delivery option.

Walmart's fleet of drones drops off orders in 30 minutes or less and some deliveries can happen in as little as 10 minutes.

The first-ever drone delivery of consumer products was made in 2016 when a 7-Eleven Slurpee was dropped off by Nevada-based drone company Flirtey.

Research has found that using drones for deliveries can significantly reduce carbon emissions and annual road use.
