Anthony Mackie appeared on "The Tonight Show" to promote "Twisted Metal" Season 2, but the interview started with host Jimmy Fallon congratulating Mackie on his recent Emmy nomination for guest actor in a comedy series thanks to his performance in Seth Rogen's Apple TV+ series "The Studio." Mackie was on a set the morning of the Emmys announcement and automatically assumed his white co-stars landed noms over him, per usual. "I'm on set… and I look over and everybody's like 'Congratulations!' And I was like, 'Oh, what white dude got nominated?'" Mackie said. "Because I'm the white dude legend when it comes to nominations and wins. I made Ryan Gosling famous. I made Jeremy Renner famous. I made Bryan Cranston famous. I now made Ron Howard famous! I'm like, if you want to get nominated, I'm the dude. You know what I mean?" More from Variety Oscars Submissions Site Opens With New Producer Sign-Off Requirement Variety's Awards Circuit Podcast Roundtable Dissects the Emmy Nominations - Including This Year's Biggest Shockers 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' Has Never Won an Emmy - That Could Finally Change After CBS Canceled It Mackie was referring to his long history of being snubbed by awards voters while his white co-stars land nominations instead. Mackie was Ryan Gosling's co-star in 2006's "Half Nelson," which earned Gosling an Oscar nomination for best actor. He starred alongside Jeremy Renner in 2008's "The Hurt Locker," which won best picture and earned Renner a best actor Oscar nom. Mackie played Martin Luther King Jr. to Bryan Cranston's Lyndon B. Johnson in the HBO movie "All the Way," for which Cranston was an Emmy nominee. And now Mackie appeared with Ron Howard in "The Studio." Only this time it wasn't just Howard who got an Emmy nomination but Mackie, too. In various interviews over the years, Mackie has spoken publicly about his disappointment with awards bodies for overlooking his work. He told Esquire earlier this year on the "Captain America: Brave New World" publicity tour: "I know I've done at least four performances that could have been nominated — if not for a Golden Globe, then an Oscar or an Emmy. Captain America is my Oscar, because I've been overlooked so many times in my career." Speaking toMen's Healthin 2020, Mackie said he "put everything" into "The Hurt Locker" and had to stop acting for a bit when the Oscars snubbed him for supporting actor. "That little fucker matters," Mackie said at the time about the Oscar. "We try to protect ourselves and say, 'I'm doing the work for the work.' But when that happened with 'Hurt Locker,' it hurt. I had to take a year off of work." Mackie is one of four guest actors nominated for "The Studio." The others are Ron Howard, Bryan Cranston and Dave Franco. The Apple TV+ series earned a huge 23 nominations this year, making it the most-nominated freshman comedy in history. It's also now tied for most nominations for a single season of a comedy series. In 2003, Ozzy and Kelly released a duet version of the song as a single. The song's original lyrics are: "I feel unhappy, I feel so sad / I've lost the best friend that I ever had." Following news of his death at 76 on Tuesday, the Osbourne family issued a statement confirming his passing. "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love." Osbourne had been dealing with chronic illness over the past few years. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in January 2020, and in early 2023 announced that he had retired from touring, citing spinal injuries he had sustained in a 2018 accident. In early July, Osbourne stagedhis farewell showwith performances from some of his favorite groups, including Metallica, Guns N' Roses and Alice in Chains. Each act performed covers of songs by Osbourne and Black Sabbath, who reunited at the show to play four songs including "War Pigs," "N.I.B.," "Iron Man" and "Paranoid." Osbourne himself performed a solo set while sitting on a throne. Before his farewell show, Osbourne affirmed to the Guardian that it would be his final performance. "I'd love to say 'never say never', but after the last six years or so … it is time. I don't want to die in a hotel room somewhere. I want to spend the rest of my life with my family." Osbourne had been working on anew memoirentitled "Last Rites," releasing on October 6 via Hachette Book Group. It's unclear if the memoir was finished, as he had planned to include his thoughts about his farewell show. Violence is flaring again on the Thai-Cambodian border. Why is it so contentious?New Foto - Violence is flaring again on the Thai-Cambodian border. Why is it so contentious?

Deadly violence has flared up once again on thecontentious borderbetween Thailand and Cambodia, reigniting a long-running but little-known dispute. Thailand deployed fighter jets against Cambodian military targets on Thursday, as forces from both countries clashed along the border. The escalation came after a second Thai soldier in a week lost their leg in a landmine explosion. Diplomatic relations have deteriorated as a full-blown conflict threatens to break out, as both sides accuse each other of aggression. Thailand's health ministry said Thursday that 12 people, including 11 civilians and one Thai soldier, have been killed in clashes with Cambodian troops. A further 31 people have been injured, the ministry said. Cambodian authorities have not yet reported any fatalities on their side. Here's what to know about the disputed border. Tensions worsened in May when a Cambodian soldier was killed during a brief clash between Thai and Cambodian troops in a contested border area of the Emerald Triangle, where Cambodia, Thailand and Laos meet. Thai and Cambodian forces said they were acting in self-defense and blamed the other for the skirmish. Although military leaders from Thailand and Cambodia said they wished to de-escalate, both sides have since engaged in saber-rattling and reinforced troops along the border. Thailand took control of border checkpoints, imposed restrictions on crossings and threatened to cut electricity and internet to Cambodia's border towns. Cambodia in return stopped imports of Thai fruit and vegetables and banned Thai movies and TV dramas. Recent landmine explosions prompted both countries to downgrade relations with each other and recall diplomatic staff. The first soldier lost his leg in a landmine explosion on July 16. The second incident occurred Wednesday, when a blast injured five Thai soldiers, with one losing his leg. Thursday's violence marked a significant escalation. Thailand and Cambodia have had a complicated relationship of both cooperation and rivalry in recent decades. The two countries share a 508-mile (817-kilometer) land border – largely mapped by the French when they controlled Cambodia as a colony – that has periodically seen military clashes and been the source of political tensions. Cambodia has previously sought a ruling from the UN's International Court of Justice over disputed areas, including the site of the most recent clash. However, Thailand does not recognize the ICJ's jurisdiction and claims that some areas along the border were never fully demarcated, including the sites of several ancient temples. In 2011, Thai and Cambodian troops clashed in a nearby area surrounding the 11th-century Preah Vihear temple, a UNESCO world heritage site, displacing thousands of peopleon both sides and killing at least 20 people. The flare-up in May has had huge political ramifications in Thailand. Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra wassuspended from dutiesin July after the leak of aphonecall she had with Cambodia's powerful former leader Hun Sen, in which she appeared to criticize her own army's actions in the dispute. Paetongtarn hails from a powerful dynasty and became Thailand'syoungest prime ministerlast year, at just 38. She could face full dismissal over the 17-minute phone call – in which she appeared to signal there was discord between her government and the powerful Thai military. The scandal and her suspension brought fresh uncertainty to the Southeast Asian kingdom, which has been roiled by years ofpolitical turbulenceand leadership shake-ups. Both sides' forces accuse each other of opening fire Thursday morning. Cambodia then fired rockets on Thai soil, Thailand said. A Thai fighter jet later dropped two bombs in Cambodian territory, Cambodia said. Cambodia's Defense Ministry condemned what it called "brutal, barbaric, and violent military aggression," accusing Thailand of violating international law. The ministry said a Thai F-16 had dropped two bombs on a road near the ancient Preah Vihear temple, a UNESCO world heritage site. "Cambodia reserves the right to lawful self-defense and will respond decisively to Thailand's violent aggression," the statement said, adding that the armed forces are "fully prepared to defend the kingdom's sovereignty and its people – whatever the cost." CNN has reached out to UNESCO for comment. Thailand's 2nd regional military command in the northeast said that F-16 fighter jets had been deployed in two areas, and it claimed to have "destroyed" two Cambodian regional military support units. Army spokesperson Col. Richa Suksuwanont said the strikes were aimed only at military targets. Thailand's acting caretaker, Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, said Cambodia fired heavy weapons into Thailand without clear targets, leading to civilian deaths. The acting premier also said the conflict was not spreading into more provinces, according to Reuters. He added that no negotiation with Cambodia can take place until fighting along the border ends. Other countries have also weighed in, urging restraint and warning travelers against approaching the contentious border. At a briefing on Thursday, US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott told reporters that the US is "gravely concerned" about the violence. "The United States urges an immediate cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians, and a peaceful resolution of the conflicts," Pigott said. Additionally on Thursday, the United Kingdom's Foreign Ministry advised against "all but essential travel" within 50 kilometers of the Cambodia-Thailand border ineithercountry. Wrongfully imprisoned Maryland man who spent 32 years behind bars sues former authoritiesNew Foto - Wrongfully imprisoned Maryland man who spent 32 years behind bars sues former authorities

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland man who was wrongly imprisoned for 32 years, including a decade on death row, for two killings he did not commit is suing former law enforcement officials in a lawsuit announced Thursday, though four of the five people named as defendants are deceased. John Huffington was pardoned by then-Gov. Larry Hogan in January 2023. Hogan cited prosecutorial misconduct in granting a full innocence pardon to Huffington in connection with a 1981 double slaying in Harford County. A Maryland board approved $2.9 million in compensation for Huffington later that year during Gov. Wes Moore's administration. Huffington said in a statement Thursday that "it took many, many painful years, but the truth eventually came out." Just 18 at the time of his arrest, he said neither of his parents ever got to see and understand that his name had been cleared and he was set free. "All of those years I spent behind bars damaged and strained my relationships, cost me the ability to have a family of my own, cost me the ability to be with my mother when she died, cost me precious time with my father who was in his nineties and suffering from Alzheimer's when I finally was released," he added. Huffington, 62, always maintained his innocence. He was released from Patuxent Institution in 2013 after serving 32 years of two life sentences. He was convicted twice in the killings known as the "Memorial Day Murders." Diane Becker was stabbed to death in her recreational vehicle, while her 4-year-old son, who was inside, was not harmed. Joseph Hudson, Becker's boyfriend, was fatally shot and found a few miles (kilometers) away. A second suspect in the slayings testified against Huffington, was convicted of first-degree murder, and served 27 years. Prosecutors relied on testimony that was later discredited about hair found at the crime scene purportedly matching Huffington's. He appealed his first conviction in 1981. In 1983, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and he was sentenced to death. Prosecutors later commuted that sentence to two life terms. Questions about evidence in the case arose when The Washington Post uncovered an FBI report in 2011 that found the FBI agent who analyzed hair evidence in Huffington's case may not have used reliable science, or even tested the hair at all. The report had been written in 1999, but Harford County State's Attorney Joseph Cassilly didn't provide it to Huffington's lawyers. A Frederick County judge vacated Huffington's convictions and ordered a new trial in 2013 after Huffington presented new evidence using DNA testing that was not available during his earlier trials. When the hair evidence was tested for DNA more than 30 years later, the results showed it was not Huffington's hair. Maryland's highest court unanimously voted to disbar Cassilly in 2021. The court found he withheld exculpatory evidence in the 1981 double murder and lied about it in the following years. Cassilly, who maintained he did nothing wrong, retired in 2019. He died in January. His brother, Bob Cassilly, who is now the Harford County executive, said in a statement that his brother was a decorated war hero who was injured while serving his country and served as the county's state's attorney for 36 years while in a wheelchair. "Joe cannot defend himself in this decades-old matter because he is now deceased, as are the other named defendants, except for one who is almost 80," Cassilly said. "Harford County government, in which I currently serve as county executive, has no role in this case -- the county was never the defendants' employer." Huffington also is suing the assistant state's attorney on his case, Gerard Comen, the Harford County government, and the county sheriff's office detectives, David Saneman, William Van Horn and Wesley J. Picha. All but Saneman are now dead, according to the lawsuit filed July 15 in federal court in Baltimore. Saneman told The Washington Post on Wednesday he had not seen or heard of the lawsuit and declined to comment.

A photo of a Chuck E. Cheese employeebeing escorted out of a Tallahassee, Florida, locationin handcuffs has gone viral on social media, and police say the incident involves a man facing credit card fraud charges. Tallahassee Police Department officers are seen in a photo that has spread across social media arresting the man donning a mouse costume. "Ok, Tallahassee Police Department, y'all couldn't let this man change out of his Chuck E. Cheese costume before arresting him in front of those kids?"one Facebook user wrote, alongside a picture of the arrest. According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by USA TODAY, Jermel Jarreau Jones, 41, was arrested on July 23, after officers responded to the Chuck E. Cheese location regarding reports of a stolen credit card. The female caller alleged she had video proof of Jones committing the crime, and she was at the location to confront him. The woman told police, who met her in the parking lot of the Chuck E. Cheese, that the last time she used her credit card was on June 28, 2025, when she attended her child's birthday party, according to the affidavit. After the party, she noticed around $105 worth of fraudulent charges on her card from businesses where she had never shopped. When the woman obtained security footage from a local grocery store, she immediately identified the man using her card in the business as a Chuck E. Cheese employee, according to the document. Once the woman told police she wanted to press charges against Jones, officers entered the Chuck E. Cheese and located him after another employee said "he was the one in the mouse suit." When officers approached Jones, one of them grabbed his right arm and told him, "Chuck E, come with me Chuck E," the affidavit stated. During this interaction, Jones pulled away from the officer's grip and allegedly "continued resisting by bracing his arms toward his chest and would not release his braced arms." The arresting officer asked Jones, "Not to make a scene." At that point, he was placed in handcuffs and escorted out of the business to the officer's patrol car. While speaking with officers, Jones told them, "The only cards I use is my own cash app," the affidavit stated. He continued to deny using the woman's card, including when questioned about purchases at a meat market and a smoke shop, the arresting document continued. "I don't got no card on me. I don't use nobody's card but my own," Jones told officers, per the affidavit. If he did find a card, Jones told the officers he would have "turned it in to Chuck E Cheese and not kept it." Jones was charged with three felonies, including theft of credit card, criminal use of personal identification information and fraudulent use of a credit card more than two times within six months, according to Leon County court records. He was taken into custody and booked at Leon County Jail, but he has already been released on bond, theTallahassee Democrat, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported. Allison Chouinard, a representative for Chuck E. Cheese, said in a statement emailed to USA TODAY on July 24: "We are aware of an incident involving a part-time employee arrested at our Tallahassee location on Wednesday, July 23. We have taken the appropriate action concerning the subject employee." Leon County court records show that Jones does not yet have a defense attorney.
