Sydney Smith A tattoo artist took a tattoo cover-up to a new level. Sydney Smith ofSyzygy Precision Tattooingin Scottsdale, Ariz., went viral for avideoshe shared on TikTok in June that shows her revamping an old tattoo for a client. The original tattoo, which Smith specified was not done by her, reads, "I am because you were." However, the lines of the tattoo blurred over time, causing the ink to spread and the words to be difficult to read. Sydney Smith As seen in the clip, the tattoo artist gave the old ink a complete refresh by using a combination of tricks to give it a more crisp appearance. The video has garnered over 4 million views on the social media platform and left viewers confused by how Smith was able to fix the aged ink. Smith tells PEOPLE exclusively that she used "custom-mixed skin-tone ink and black ink to restore the existing tattoo, redefining blurred lines to make it crisp and legible while keeping the original design." "This fix keeps the tattoo's original meaning while making it look new," she adds. The tattoo artist goes on to say that the cover-up will last the same as a new tattoo as long as proper aftercare is applied. She adds that touch-ups may be needed to keep the ink in pristine condition — which she offers free of charge to her clients. While anybody can get a tattoo covered up, Smith notes that her specific technique "works best on older, faded tattoos with simple designs." The rib location of her client's old tattoo "worked well due to ample space and the tattoo's faded state," she says. Sydney Smith The tattoo artist, who offers training courses at her tattoo shop, adds that cover-ups comprise about 10-15% of her work. As for the response to the video, Smith found herself entertained. "The TikTok reactions were great! I'm thrilled people were amazed at the transformation, it shows the impact of this technique," she says. Smith previously went viral on TikTokfor sharing her microscopic tattoos, one of which shows her giving a client a nearly undetectable heart design on their shoulder. She previously told PEOPLE that the tiny tattoos are part of an add-on service that is free of charge with the purchase of other tattoos. "But I think 'Kill Bill' is the ultimate Quentin movie, like nobody else could've made it. Every aspect about it is so particularly ripped, like with tentacles and bloody tissue, from my imagination and my id and my loves and my passion and my obsession. So I think 'Kill Bill' is the movie I was born to make, I think 'Inglourious Basterds' is my masterpiece, but 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' is my favorite." The "Pulp Fiction" director then picked his favorite and best from his screenplays. "I think 'Inglourious Basterds' is my best script, and I think 'Hateful Eight' and 'Once Upon a Time In Hollywood' are right behind," he explained. "But, there's an aspect of 'Hateful Eight' that I actually think is probably my best directing of my material, i.e., the material is written and it's solid. So it's not like I have to create it, like 'Kill Bill,' it's solid, it's right there and I actually think it's my best servicing [of] my material as a director." Despite Tarantino's affinity for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," David Fincher will direct the highly anticipated sequel, "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," for Netflix. Elsewhere in the interview, Tarantino said he passed on directing the project because the idea of his 10th and final film being a sequel"unenthused" him. "I love this script, but I'm still walking down the same ground I've already walked," Tarantino said. "It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I've got to not know what I'm doing again. I've got to be in uncharted territory." Tarantino also discussed his long-rumored 10th and final film, "The Movie Critic." He said the project was ultimately scrapped because it wastoo similar to his previous work. "I wasn't really excited about dramatizing what I wrote when I was in pre-production, partly because I'm using the skillset that I learned from 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' [of] 'How are we going to turn Los Angeles into the Hollywood of 1969 without using CGI?'" he explained. "It was something we had to pull off. We had to achieve it. It wasn't for sure that we could do it. … 'The Movie Critic,' there was nothing to figure out. "Black Swan" returns to theaters on Aug. 21 and 24, playing in Imax for the first time to celebrate fifteen years since the psychological thriller first hit cinemas. Director Darren Aronofsky recently reunited with stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis to reflect on the film's milestone anniversary forVogue, and their discussion revealed that the director had tried and failed to stoke rivalry between the two stars to reflect their on-screen feud. "My take is that I was trying to be a sneaky director and make them argue," admitted Aronofsky, "Mila and Natalie both realized very quickly what I was doing and made fun of me, so it quickly became a joke that we all understood. They're both very clever and were instantly privy to whatever trick I was playing." The on-screen contention between the two devolves into a fever dream of violence, deception and abuse— both mental and physical. Behind the scenes, however, Portman and Kunis were too professional and supportive of one another to give in to Aronofsky's tactics. "I remember being separated from Mila and that we weren't in the same space a lot when we weren't shooting," Portman recalled, but when the director would try bating her with comments about Kunis' talent and commitment, she responded, "She's so fucking talented and I love her so much and I'm happy she's doing a great job!" Kunis faced similar situations. She said, "Darren would tell me, 'Nat is working really, really hard. She's not even taking Saturdays and Sundays off.' Then I would text Nat and she'd be like, '…No, I'm not?' I think that's how we figured out what Darren was up to, but it was all in good fun." Nevertheless, both actors reflected fondly on their experience working with Aronofsky. "'Black Swan' was the first time I felt like I had a mind meld with a director, where each of us always knew exactly what to say. Every time we talked it felt like he gave me a little key that unlocked a scene for me," said Portman. Kunis added that when journalists would ask her about Aronofsky's intensity on set, she'd respond, "'He's actually a really kind, lovely guy who took us to see 'Twilight' one time because we had the day off.' And journalists were always so disappointed that he wasn't some tortured soul who treated us like garbage." Their collaboration paid off, as "Black Swan" earned $329.4 million at the worldwide box office. Portman took home her first Academy Award for her performance and the film garnered four additional nominations— including best picture and best director for Aronofsky. Portman summed it up well when reflecting on her first time watching the film, calling it "shocking and exhilarating in a really wonderful way." Audiences will be able to relive that shock and wonder in Imax next weekend, and Aronofsky's next film, "Caught Stealing," will hit theaters Aug. 29. Courtesy of Disney Gal Gadotis backtracking her recent comments that pressure to speak out against Israel — the actress' home country — played a major role inSnow White's failure at the box office. "I was honored to join an extraordinary interview with inspiring interviewers, whose questions go straight to the heart. Sometimes we respond to questions from an emotional place," Gadot shared in a text post to her Instagram Stories on Sunday. The actress was referring to aJerusalem Postinterview, in which she claimed that "pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel" following the Palestinian militant group Hamas' killing of approximately 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, 2023, "greatly affected" the film's financial performance. "When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticized me in a very personal, almost visceral way," she wrote on Instagram. "They saw me first and foremost as an Israeli, not as an actress. That's the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question." Gal Gadot/Instagram Gadot continued, "Of course, the film didn't fail solely because of external pressures. There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails, and success is never guaranteed." Entertainment Weeklyhas reached out to a representative for Gadot for comment. But Gadot's former service in the Israeli Defense Forces and continued support of the country amid its siege of Gaza, which recently surpassed adeath tollof 60,000 Palestinians, sparked a fair amount of ire, and even aboycott. Zegler herself waded into the controversy,posting"free Palestine" shortly before the film's first trailer release in Aug. 2024.
