In DeGeneres' first public appearance since moving to the Cotswolds region, she confirmed reports that she and de Rossi, 52, decided to settle across the pond after Trump, 79, was re-elected, per theBBC. During a live conversation in the English town of Cheltenham on Sunday, July 20, English broadcaster Richard Bacon asked DeGeneres whether reports that Trump played a role in the move are correct, to which she replied, "Yes," per the BBC. Initially, theEllen DeGeneres Showalum thought she and her wife would spend just a portion — three or four months — of the year at their "part-time house" in the U.K., she explained to Bacon at Cheltenham's Everyman theater. Then, Trumpwas re-elected. NEW YORK (AP) —James Gunn's "Superman"showed staying power in its second weekend at North American box offices, collecting $57.3 million in ticket sales and remaining the No. 1 movie in cinemas, according to studio estimates Sunday. None of the week's new releases — "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Smurfs," and "Eddington" — came close to touching Warner Bros. and DC Studios'superhero success. "Superman" dipped 54% from its domestic opening, an average decline for a big summer film. In two weeks, "Superman" has grossed $406.8 million worldwide, a good start for the movie DC Studios is banking on to restart its movie operations. A big test looms next weekend, when the Walt Disney Co. releases Marvel's"The Fantastic Four: First Steps." Strong audience scores and good reviews should help propel the $225 million-budgeted "Superman" toward profitability in the coming weeks. For Warner Bros. and DC Studios, "Superman" is key to kicking off a 10-year plan for the comic book adaptation studio. Co-headsGunn and Peter Safrawere tasked with rehabilitating the flagging operation. Next on tap are the films "Supergirl" and "Clayface" in 2026. But "Superman" is far from flying solo in theaters right now. Universal Pictures'"Jurassic World: Rebirth"came in second this weekend, with $23.4 million in its third week of release. The seventh "Jurassic" movie, this one starring Scarlett Johansson, held its own despite the competition from "Superman." In three weeks, it accrued $648 million worldwide. Apple Studios and Warner Bros.'"F1: The Movie"has also shown legs, especially internationally. In its fourth weekend, the Brad Pitt racing drama dipped just 26% domestically, bringing in $9.6 million in North America, and another $29.5 million overseas. Its global total stands at $460.8 million. But both of the biggest new releases — Sony Pictures' "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and Paramount Pictures' "Smurfs" — fell flat. "I Know What You Did Last Summer"opened with $13 million, a fair result for a movie budgeted at a modest $18 million, but a disappointing opening for a well-known horror franchise. The film, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, is set 27 years after the 1997 original. Teenagers played by Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders are again haunted for covering up a car accident. The movie's reviews (38% "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes) were poor for "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and audiences graded it similarly. The film notched a "C+" on CinemaScore. The original collected $72.6 million in its domestic run in 1997. Paramount Pictures'"Smurfs"debuted in fourth place this weekend with $11 million. The latest big-screen reboot for the woodland blue creatures prominently features Rihanna as the voice of Smurfette. But reviews (21% "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes) were terrible. Audiences were kinder, giving it a "B+" on CinemaScore, but the $58 million-budgeted release will depend largely on its international sales. In 56 overseas markets, "Smurfs" earned $22.6 million. Ari Aster's "Eddington"opened with $4.2 million on 2,111 screens for A24. Since itspremiere at the Cannes Film Festival, "Eddington" has beenparticularly divisive. The pandemic-set Western features Joaquin Phoenix as the right-wing sheriff of a small New Mexico town who faces off with its liberal mayor (Pedro Pascal). While Aster's first film, 2018's "Heredity" ($82.8 million worldwide against a $10 million budget) helped establish A24 as an indie powerhouse, but the less-than-stellar launch of "Eddington" marks the second box-office disappointment for Aster. His 2023 film "Beau Is Afraid" cost $35 million to make but collected just $12.4 million worldwide. "Eddington" cost about $25 million to produce. Audiences gave it a "C+" on CinemaScore. None of Aster's previous films have been graded higher. Yet collectively, Hollywood is enjoying a very good summer. According to data firm Comscore, the 2025 summer box office is up 15.9% over the same period last year, with the year-to-date sales running 15% ahead of 2025. Summer ticket sales have amassed about $2.6 billion domestically, according to Comscore. BERLIN (AP) — Police in northwestern Germany on Sunday said that several people were injured when a car veered off a road, hit a 7-year-old boy on a trampoline and went flying into a barn roof on its side. Police said that the car first collided with a parked vehicle in the town of Bohmte, broke through a hedge and drove into a garden where it hit the boy. The car then went over uneven ground and it was apparently catapulted into the air and ended up crashing into the roof of a neighboring barn about 3 meters (10 feet) off the ground. The boy was seriously injured, the police statement said. The driver was an unidentified 42-year-old man, and his wife was also seriously injured. Their two sons, ages 11 and 12, and a 13-year-old passenger were also on board, who like the driver emerged with minor injuries. Dozens of firefighters, as well as a dozen ambulances and two rescue helicopters were among the emergency services deployed in response. Images from the scene showed rescuers cutting through the roof, and wreckage of a playground that the car ran through. The car had to be removed from the roof with a crane and was carted away by police. An investigation was underway.

Some 67 people were killed in northern Gaza, the ministry said, while six others were killed in Khan Younis in the south of the Strip. It is unclear whether the 67 people reported killed in northern Gaza were all killed in the same place or in multiple incidents. It marks one of the highest reported death tolls among recent,repeated casesin which aid seekers have been killed. The Israel Defense Forces said that troops had "fired warning shots in order to remove an immediate threat posed to them" after "a gathering of thousands of Gazans was identified in the northern Gaza Strip." "The IDF is aware of the claim regarding casualties in the area, and the details of the incident are still being examined," the Israeli military said, without disclosing any casualty figures. The Israeli military also issued a warning to residents in a number of areas in northern Gaza, including the cities of Beit Lahia, Jabalya and Beit Hanoun. "These areas are active combat zones and extremely dangerous," the IDF's Arabic language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, said Sunday. "The Israel Defense Forces are operating in these areas with very intense force. For your safety, movement to these areas is strictly prohibited. Those who heard have been warned." According to Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of theAl-Shifa Hospitalin Gaza, people were shot at by the Israeli army on Sunday morning while attempting to get aid northwest of Gaza City, which is in the north of the enclave. "Al-Shifa Medical Complex is in a catastrophic state due to the overwhelming number of martyrs, injuries and starving civilians," Abu Salmiya told CNN in a statement. "There have been a large number of deaths and injuries among those seeking aid, and ambulances and civilian vehicles have not stopped arriving, transporting the wounded and the dead from the northwestern areas of Gaza," he continued. "A significant number of civilians, and even medical staff, are arriving in a state of fainting or collapse due tosevere malnutrition," he said. The Palestinian Red Crescent said that its Al-Saraya Field Hospital in Gaza City received 120 injured people, some of them in critical condition, on Sunday. It said it also received two dead bodies. "Israeli forces targeted civilians waiting for aid arriving from the Zikim area, north of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip. Due to the large number of casualties received by the hospital, new beds were urgently opened to ensure adequate treatment for the injured, as the hospital's capacity is estimated at only 68 beds," the Palestinian Red Crescent said. Meanwhile, residents in the central Gaza city of Deir Al Balah said they were forced to evacuate on Sunday after the IDF dropped flyers warning them to leave the area. "The planes came and dropped many leaflets on us; the entire sky was covered with leaflets on the houses, the streets and everywhere, stating that we had to evacuate from certain areas," one resident, Thurayya Abu Qunneis, told CNN. "We are living on edge. We can't sleep, eat or drink. There is no flour, no anything, and we are hungry," she said. "We are dying, and our children are dying of hunger." Another resident, Mohammad Al Najiri, told CNN: "We were sitting here in the morning when suddenly they sent us messages and warnings telling us to leave. Where should we go? There is no place to evacuate to… we don't know where to go." Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) said in a statement Sunday that Israel's evacuation orders "endanger vital humanitarian and primary healthcare sites… and are accelerating the systematic dismantling of Gaza's already-decimated healthcare system," adding that several humanitarian organizations' offices were "ordered to evacuate immediately," and nine clinics, five shelters and a community kitchen were forced to shut down amid the orders. In another incident on Saturday, at least32 people were killedwhile seeking aid near a distribution point run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, according to the Palestinian health ministry and witnesses. The Israeli military said troops had "identified suspects who approached them during operational activity in the Rafah area" about one kilometer from the aid site "at night-time when it's not active." The IDF said troops had called on the suspects "to distance themselves, and after they did not comply, the troops fired warning shots." It said it was aware of reports regarding casualties and the incident was under review. According to Gaza's Hamas-run Government Media Office, some 995 people have been killed while attempting to obtain food near aid distribution sites between May 27 and Sunday. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said earlier this month that nearly 800 Gazans had been killed trying to access aid between late May and July 7. A suspect remained on the loose Sunday after stealing a 35,000-pound fire engine in Everett, Washington, and going on a rampage, crashing into more than a dozen parked vehicles before abandoning the emergency rig and fleeing on foot, according to police and fire officials. The theft of the Everett Fire Department pumper truck unfolded as its fire crew was on the fifth floor of a nearby building attending a medical emergency call, police said. "Losing a fire engine in such a reckless manner not only jeopardizes the safety of our first responders but also puts our community at risk," Everett Police Chief John DeRousse said in a statement. "We are committed to ensuring the safety of our residents, and any information that helps us resolve this incident is crucial. It is imperative that we hold the suspect accountable for their actions, and we will work diligently to bring them to justice." The theft happened just after 11 p.m. on Friday in the 2900 block of Hoyt Avenue in Everett, according to police. Firefighters returning from the medical emergency call discovered their engine, a 2018 Pierce Enforcer Pumper truck, was missing, according to police. As officers responded to the crash sites, they came across three other scenes where vehicle or property -- including trees and a street sign -- had been damaged, police said. The stolen fire engine also sustained significant damage and had to be taken out of service, officials said. No injuries were reported. "We are actively reviewing this incident and examining our policies and procedures to see what, if anything, can be done to help prevent such occurrences in the future," Everett Fire Chief Dave DeMarco said in a statement.
