"The View" co-host Ana Navarro posted a message on Instagram Thursday morning urging singer Gloria Gaynor to reject President Trump's Kennedy Center Honor. "A few years ago, I got to briefly meet @gloriagaynor at a concert in Miami. She gifted me a keychain that belted out 'I Will Survive,' when you pressed it. Let's just say, during first Trump term, I pressed it til it ran out of batteries," Navarro began in her Instagram post. "Yesterday, Trump announced he picked her to receive a Kennedy Center Honor, which he plans to host." Navarro continued: "Look, the woman is a goddess and deserves all the flowers that come her way. But I wish she wouldn't accept an award from the hands of a man who has attacked the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ. The gay community in particular, helped turn her signature song into an anthem. Trump is a stain on the prestige and significance of the KCH. Don't do it, Gloria!" Trumpannounced this year's Kennedy Center honoreesduring a press conference Wednesday at the performing arts center. In addition to Gloria Gaynor, he revealed that actor Sylvester Stallone, the rock band Kiss, actor and comedian Michael Crawford, and country singer-songwriter George Strait will also receive the honor. The president is scheduled to host the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to American culture through performing arts, in December. In February, Trump announced he had been "unanimously" elected as chair of the Kennedy Center's board. The announcement followed a controversial move in which he replaced board members appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden. Trump has previously criticized the Kennedy Center for featuring programming he considers too "woke." "NO MORE DRAG SHOWS, OR OTHER ANTI-AMERICAN PROPAGANDA — ONLY THE BEST," he posted on Truth Social earlier this year. Varietyhas reached out to Gaynor's rep for comment.
