History-making MLB player Chito Martinez dead at 59 from heart attack
MLB history-maker Chito Martinez passed away Tuesday from a heart attack at age 59, his former team, the Baltimore Orioles, announced on social media. Martinez is the only Belize native to ever play in Major League Baseball, having made his big-league debut in 1991. Martinez spent parts of three seasons with the Orioles before permanently being sent down to the minors and leaving the sport. Martinez's family emigrated to the United States from then-British Honduras when he was 2.
